Right-to-die issues divide Americans

NEW YORK (AP) - A new poll finds Americans to be divided on whether doctors should help terminally ill patients die.

The AP-Ipsos poll suggests that more than two-thirds of Americans agree that a patient should be allowed to die in certain situations.

But people don't seem to agree on whether a doctor should be allowed to help a terminally ill patient die by prescribing a lethal drug.

Well that's to be expected on moral or political questions!

"that a patient should be allowed to die in certain situations"

How did the people polled understand "allowed to die?" Does it mean to stop medical intervention, or to take him off life support (w/ or w/o permission), or give him the means to kill himself, or what? Without more specificity, such polls are useless.
