KFC, Taco Bell Complete Switch to Trans Fat-Free Foods
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — KFC's fried chicken buckets soon will be stamped with a health message along with the famous likeness of its founder, Colonel Harland Sanders.

The banner proclaims that its chicken has zero grams of trans fat per serving.

The Louisville-based chain announced Monday that all 5,500 of its U.S. restaurants have stopped frying chicken in artery-clogging trans fat. The company had said in October that it was switching to a new soybean oil believed to be less likely to cause heart disease. ...

Good for the KFC/Taco Bell switch from man-made poisons to something more acceptable. Frankly though, the trans fats should just be banned.

They should work harder to keep their customers healthy. They keep the people who go to their restaurants around longer.

That's about the same as my "1900 Rule."

Sadly, the food industry resorts to numerous shortcuts to reduce costs, ranging from premature harvesting (bland fruits & veggies) to the use of synthetic flavor enhancers (to make up for poor basic ingredients). We should stop putting up with 2nd best.

A good rule of thumb that I've been using for years is what I call the "Grandma Walton Rule". It goes like this: You all (or most of you) should remember the TV show "The Waltons" about a depression era family in the hill of Virginia. Picture Grandma in the kitchen preparing food with daughter-in-law Olivia. If you can't picture Grandma asking Olivia to pass an ingredient, don't use the ingredient! Example: "Livy honey, pass me the hydrogenated guar gum, would ya".
