Unfortunately, like many professing Christians in the media, Mr. Hart was not always the best role-model, making jokes about drinking booze and such. I don't mean to be a wet blanket, but I think we need to see reality through Biblical glasses rather than rose-colored ones. I also liked most of his cartoons, but was disappointed sometimes by his lack of discernment.
I am so sorry to hear this news. I absolutely LOVED his cartoons and really admired him. John, in answer to your question, are you familiar with Wayne Stayskal, I believe he is a Christian and another great cartoonist. My sincere condolances to Johnny Hart's family.
Johnny Hart lived not to far from where I am. I always enjoyed his comics, especially around Christmas and Easter. There were people who wanted his cartoons moved to the editorial section or even ousted from the newspaper because he was so open about his christianity. I am thankful for the privilege of reading his cartoons and pray that even after his death, they may be used to point people to the Savior.
