NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A state lawmaker proposes to use the legislative process to get an answer to the question of whether the universe was created by a supreme being.
Under the measure, introduced by Republican state Sen. Raymond Finney, the answer would come from state Education Commissioner Lana Seivers “in report form” no later than Jan. 15.
Finney, a retired physician, said Monday that his objective is to formally prod the Department of Education into a dialogue about the teaching of evolution in school science classes without also teaching the alternative of “creationism,” or “intelligent design.”...
As a believer in Jesus Christ at times I am deeply saddened at the appalling position our country takes in the educational sphere. But as a believer I know that God is in control. To spend some time investigating the truth concerning Christianity and the beginnings of our school system is a shocking endeavor to say the least. Of course it is common knowledge that the first schools had the famous blue back speller which was full of scripture. Even as far as the middle of last century the Bible was used as the sourcebook for character building and hopefully someones salvation. I am sitting here now looking a some old American Readers(1840's-1860's)and continue to be awestruck. Authors such as Milton and Paradise Regained(wow!), George Herbert, Thomas Carlyle, etc. These are not the exception but rather the norm. Oh yes, did I forget to mention the readings in a couple of readers by different companies by the title: The Book of Job.(Wow!) I could go on but this is quite sufficient. How can they be getting away with this? God may have forsaken this country but my prayer to the Lord is that we would once again be a Christian witness in the U.S.A. before He comes again. Thy will be done Lord. Give us courage, strength and wisdom dear Lord. Job 42
