W. Todd Bassett, former National Commander of The Salvation Army, has been named Executive Director of the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE).
"Todd Bassett brings the highest level of leadership and experience to his new position as Executive Director of the National Association of Evangelicals,” said Leith Anderson, NAE President. “He is well known and respected among evangelicals and the broader religious community of America. I am thrilled to have him join our leadership team."
Neil, naturally, I was being sardonic. I'm surprised that you were so favorable to an Arminian organization? I'm not hostile to all the good work they do. I believe they did leave the WCC sometime in the past. However, I'm not going to join this organization anytime in the future. They like Psychology and other problems mentioned in,
Perhaps he can be a drill sargent and whip this bunch into shape? Perhaps he can draft Rick Warren, and send him to some Salvation Army post in Asia where we won't have to hear from him again.
The Salvation Army does do a lot of good social work. The Salvation Army was/is influenced by the ideas of John Wesley and Revivalism, q.v., http://www.ihcc.org/images/booklets/pdf/L124.pdf
They are interested in such things as Psychology, q.v., http://www.ihcc.org/images/booklets/pdf/L120.pdf
So, one should avoid this type of ecumenism, q.v., http://www.ihcc.org/images/booklets/pdf/L117.pdf
All that aside, for a group that have the great commission as a secondary concern, it is probably a step upward from the last president they had.
