Evangelical leaders join scientists to fight global warming
Leading scientists and evangelical Christian leaders have agreed to put aside passionate differences over the origin of life and work together to curb global warming.
Representatives met recently in Georgia and agreed on the need for action. Details are to be unveiled in Washington on Wednesday.
"Whether God created the Earth in a millisecond or whether it evolved over billions of years, the issue we agree on is that it needs to be cared for today," said Rich Cizik, vice president of government relations for the National Association of Evangelicals, which represents 45,000 churches....
This is hilarious; to "fight" global warming, dozens of men fly to Georgia, burning thousands of gallons of kerosene in the process. In a manner of speaking, they're smoking to make the room smell better.
Yes, Chris, winter has finally arrived in the statistically coldest month of the year here(I noted the approximate temperature in one of my other posts below).....Finally! Hot summers, cold winters; it's a perfect example of a continental climate and I think it's great. A friend of mine in Estonia said they've had the warmest winter in 150 years, so maybe global warming is making a more intense visit over there.
Good try, Jim, but What about all those works Jesus talks about? Caring for the poor? etc....God destroying those who destroy the earth...and on and on.... Nice tradition you've got there .
So it's cooler now than before, Chris? Since things must be inverted in Oz, a clever climate "scientist" could say it's more evidence for Global Warming, eh?
Those temperatures sound about right for Tucson in summer. Lately of course it's been below freezing overnight, but alas, no precipitation No danger of the "snowbirds" going back home to Canada or the Upper Midwest.
I thought it was really cold in the USA right now msc? Our summer here has been mild so far.... yesterday was 105 degrees but today is in the low 90's. When I was a kid it would often stay around 105 degrees for days at a time, sometimes more than a week, with night time temperatures around 85 - 90 degrees. Glad things have cooled off a bit from those days.
The old saying went, "40 million Frenchman can be wrong." This usually meant that what they supported was wrong. I see that at least 45,000 churches back call themselves evangelical are wrong.
They seem to forget that The Great Commission is supposed to take all of their time and not to foolishly fritter it away playing around with a social issues.
Matthew 28 18 And Jesus coming up spoke to them, saying, All power has been given me in heaven and upon earth. 19 Go [therefore] and make disciples of all the nations, baptising them to the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit; 20 teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have enjoined you. And behold, *I* am with you all the days, until the completion of the age.
I would have to say that the intended meaning of Genesis 8:22 is that until the end, life on earth will be condusive to man's existance. Yes there will be droughts and floods and ups and downs, but that has always been the case. I think this is another one of Al Gore's exagerations. First he invented the internet, now he want's fame for saving humanity.
Genesis 8:22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.
Mike, I suppose I've learned some things and interpreted them in a way I shouldn't have. Maybe then I'd be of different mind on the matter. Finally getting to near 0 here the last few nights. But yes, this is January...supposedly the coldest month of the year up here. Spring is my favorite season and it's almost just around the corner. The sauna suffices nicely for heat withdrawals in the middle of a cold winter, however . Lovin' it just like it is....keep the aerosols away from me .
'Science' has gone from predicting a disastrous global cooling to predicting a disastrous global warming in a time period probably shorter than you have been on the planet. Why should the latter be believed any more than the former?
btw, we're having an ice storm. But it is January.
Good try, Peter, but global warming doesn't necessarily mean the end of winter. On the contrary it can cause more intense cold spells due to how the whole thing works: increased heating in the lower layers and cooling up above and sooner or later something gives. The colder and denser air will pay you a visit at eye level. Good to see some Christians taking a stand to reduce pollution and improve health overall. For the others I can only give them a
There are some interesting articles at www.junkscience.com which show that not all agree that man is the cause of global warming and many question whether global warming is occuring. Global warming, if it is happening, may be cyclical and beyond the control of man.
I watched an interesting documentary recently about how El Nino has caused the extinction of a civilization on the west coast of South America about 1400 years ago and the extinction of a civilization in the area of Ur in present day Iraq about 3000 years ago. Certainly no man-made global warming back then.
