‘Nativity Story’ actress should not be shunned, leaders say
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)--Amid reports that the teenage actress who plays Mary in the new movie “The Nativity Story” is pregnant out of wedlock, some Christians are wondering how to respond to a lead character’s personal life in a movie they have enthusiastically embraced.
The 16-year-old actress, Keisha Castle-Hughes, plays the role of the Virgin Mary in the Hollywood rendition of the story surrounding Jesus’ birth, which opens in theaters Dec. 1. In October, the agency that represents her confirmed she is expecting a baby in the spring and the father is her boyfriend of three years....
There is a Christian movie that was released in September that everyone should see. "Facing The Giants" was written and produced by two brothers on the staff at Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, GA. The film's actors are all believers and volunteers from the church. The head coach for the University of Georgia also has a cameo part. The film has, and is continuing to have, phenominal success. It will be released on DVD at the end of January. This is a MUST see by all.
There was ever only one woman born without sin Eve,all after her were shapen in iniquity and born in sin. Also Christ could only be made under the law,but was born without sin,if you don't believe it pick up the bible and read it yourself, and don't let others tell you what it says without reading and studying it yourself.
But Hey Thats Why "ye must be born again" then the Spirit of Truth will lead you
Try this. God did give us Jesus, but first God fashioned the tool named Mary. He gave her all of her virtues and his grace. If she were to reject God's offer, then God who is omnicient would have merely made another woman with those same virtues. She is from first to last....his tool...his was the power...his was the grace...he probably even gave her the grace to say 'yes'. God could have hatched Jesus in a hollow log....BUT HE DIDN'T. He willed that a human woman give her free-will (there's that nasty word again)...he willed that a weak woman give her body, her reputation and risk her life, when he could have taken what he wanted...he willed that she be from the house of David...he willed that his son be a real man...with real flesh and real blood...with a real mother....and a mother's real feelings. The reality of how God depended on a mere woman, not a goddess, to bring about his final victory...says more about his goodness and his mercy than if he had done the entire work of salvation in heaven without Christ becoming human. It is poetic justice and entirely fitting that since a human woman under the influence of the devil, caused us to fall, that another human woman under the influence of the most High God should cause us to be saved by the Christ.
What did we get from Mary that God couldn't have given us countless other ways? Nothing.
Did Mary predate God? We see the Trinity in Genesis. No Mary. Jesus pointed out that David was referring to Him when speaking of his Lord. Did Mary predate David? No. How can one give birth to something that predates them by thousands of years, little lone eternity? God SENT Jesus through Mary to be born a man that He might then die for all of man. Mary birthed a human, not a God.
If you want to worship Mary for God choosing her, worship Noah as well. For through God choosing Noah, mankind exists. If there was no Noah then no humans would exist. No saved, no unsaved, no Mary and no followers for Jesus to be born of nor die for. Noah carried a much heavier burden for hundreds of years. Mary only 9 months.
When blessing people in Hebrews we find who? Mary? No. Able, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Rahab, Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel and the prophets. But no mention of Mary. I am NOT saying she wasn't blessed and shouldn't be honored. But she didn't birth God and shouldn't be worshipped. She does not intrercede, she is awaiting the ressurrection as are we all.
Well, I have to say, GG is right on this. Jim and HaveYouNotRead are resorting to an ancient schism which basically stripped Jesus of His divinity when they got all upset over the Greek term for Mary: Theotokos..the one who carried God With Us in her womb(basically God-bearer). Sure, God gave us Jesus, but how? Hmm...not hard to figure out.
"Through her you gained Jesus Christ...God willed it so."
Blasphemy and herasy. Through GOD we got Jesus. Scripture says GOD gave His only begotten Son. NOT Mary. Mary could have said 'no' and God could have moved on.Though she should be honored for her faith, she was no less a sinner than others for ALL have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.
There HAS to be no sadness or tears in heaven. Because if there was, Mary would spend until the end of time in heaven shamed, anguished and sobbing for the worship so many try to bestow upon her.
Very little angers me more than such lies. Grrrrrrr...
Unfortunately, G.G., the virgin Mary, mother of Jesus --not God-- has already been given bad press by the way the Catholic Church has portrayed her. "The foundation of all our confidence is found in the Virgin Mary. God has committed to her the treasury of all good things, in order that everyone may know that through her are obtained every hope, every grace, and all salvation. For this is His will: that we obtain everything through Mary. Sweet heart of Mary, be my salvation!" Pope Pius IX
Matthew 3:12 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire. _____________________________________________________
"I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:"
Matthew 25:24-30 Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed: And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine. His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed: Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury. Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents. For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath. And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
This is becoming an increasing problem for Christian film makers when they choose to use non-Christian actors. Let me preface that having a Christian actor is no guarantee of sinlessness...but it will at least have someone who knows how they ought to live.
We had a porn actress in "The Passion", a homosexual in "End of the Spear" and now a teenage young women in "The Nativity Story" went from portraying the virgin Mary to having a child out of wedlock.
Christian flim makers need to look not at the actor's talent and qualifications....but look at if they even have immoral lifestyles that would ruin the Christian message they seek to get out. There are good actors who are Christians or at least moral...who would like to have the opportunity to share their faith or morals in a quality film.
Let's face it...anybody who is not the V.M. is a case of bad type casting. What actor should ever play Jesus? Its just a movie...see it or don't. But, by not seeing it you may give Hollywood the notion that religious movies are a losing proposition.
This is so ignorant. She is only an actress; not the mother of Jesus. As Dan from Tennessee said, when are we as Christians going to realize that Hollywood knows nothing of God and makes movies for money? They might be able to have someone produce a movie and gather information but it is only head knowledge and every one I have seen are not biblically correct. What the Vatican endoreses, I want NO part of!!!!
