OTTAWA - The Quebec Ministry of Education has told unlicensed Christian evangelical schools that they must teach Darwin's theory of evolution and sex education or close their doors after a school board in the Outaouais region complained the provincial curriculum was not being followed.
"Quebec children are legally required to follow the provincial curriculum ... but these evangelical schools teach their own courses on creationism and sexuality that don't follow the Quebec curriculum," said Pierre Daoust, director-general of the Commission Scolaire au Coeur-des-Vallees in Thurso, Que.
Mr. Daoust's complaint sparked the province-wide investigation....
I have to say I agree with the other post here. The truth has nothing to fear from error. Teach them science. This means all the theory and hypothises out there. Our children are far from stupid, as the secular humanists seem to believe.
I don't think evolution or creation should be taught in school. Both are religions. I think the facts should be taught. However, in a home school, I'm all for it especially since it is being (wrongly) taught in public schools. I teach my daughter evolutionary theory right along side of creation. I then teach her to think, not simply believe what I tell her, but to actually look at the facts and decide which way they actually point. She has drawn the conclusion that evolutionary theory doesn't fit the facts, but the facts actually point towards creation.
The problem is, schools don't teach kids to think. They teach kids what to believe and society reinforces this. I saw a car comercial last night claiming the car was "nicely priced at $18,995". Oh wow! Its nicely priced at $18,995, right? Heck no! That's outrageously priced! 15 years ago, a nice car was half that. Political adds and politics in general are the same. Believe what we say and don't go thinking for yourself.
Just teach your kids to think. Unfortunately they won't be able to live in blissful ignorance, but at least they'll be able to think for themselves.
While homeschooling our 3 kids (am I starting to sound repetitive like John Yurich?) we explained Darwin's theories and the whole concept of evolution to our kids. This made it much easier to teach Biblical creationism and to point out the holes and Godlessness of evolutionary thinking.
Chris puts it well. Were I heading up a school, I'd teach Darwin--and would be very careful to make sure that his objections to his own theory were taught, along with the historical pattern of fabrication of evidence in that discipline.
Same thing with sex education. I'd have plenty of stuff from Planned Parenthood and SIECUS--along with the statistics compiled by Judith Reisman about the side effects of these ideas.
Might not be exactly what the Quebec DoEd has in mind, but whatever.
Ca c'est tres triste pour les vrais chretiens evangeliques-protestants au dans le province de Quebec. It's very sad for the true evangelical-protestant Christians in the province of Quebec. Interesting, today I saw a car sticker with the following: Darwin Loves You !
