Pope's speech stirs Muslim anger
Muslim religious leaders have accused Pope Benedict XVI of quoting anti-Islamic remarks during a speech at a German university this week.

Questioning the concept of holy war, he quoted a 14th-Century Christian emperor who said Muhammad had brought the world only "evil and inhuman" things.

A senior Pakistani Islamic scholar, Javed Ahmed Gamdi, said jihad was not about spreading Islam with the sword. Turkey's top religious official asked for an apology for the "hostile" words.

GG!
Denny and Dennis are not one and the same. The Nazis are a growing threat. They just won big in the elections in former eastern Germany! Just another head of the same hydra.

Sarah and et.al,
To compare the RCC with radical Islam as equal threats is way over the top. The only way one can handle that is to fall for a lot of generalizations.

RADICAL Islam has the goal of converting the Pope to Allah through terrorism and violence and installing Sharia law over the world. The Pope or RCC is NOT raising armies built on the Koran interpretation that violence is condoned by their God. Nor is he/she inciting to beheading opponents, burning effigies and screaming "death to America!" You gotta realize that to a radical islamist the Pope is the head Christian. They cannot even conceive of someone being athiest so every European or American is Christian.

The Catholic - Protestants conflict has also a history of violence and it wasn't from just one side. Fox was not what one would call an objective reporter. There are tares mixed with the wheat. Both sides have had their mix of politics within them and the true believers have been caught in the chasm.

We would do well to not mix a lot of jargon with facts. It clouds the judgment.

ChrisM of Australia. I had to literally chuckle when you mentioned

"I hope the Pope issues a 'Papal Bull'.
It is always fun whent the Popes pronounce bull."

I guess what comes to mind when I read this, is ....havent all the popes of bygone eras to date, isssued nothing short of a lot of Bull in the first place.
I mean, indulgences, eucharist, praying to dead saints, the confessional booth, and so forth and so forth. Oh, lets not forget the Inquisition where there was a time, you dare say anything contrary to the so called Holy Roman Church...and it was indeed...OFF WITH HIS/HER HEAD! OR INTO THE BONFIRE YOU GO. Dont forget a few stretching spells on the rack. The fox's book of martyrs are well documented at Rome's gruesome past. To coin a good quote by a long past preacher. ''Rome, is gentle as a dove when she is outnumbered, cunning as a snake when sides switch ..so she can be on the winning side, and ferocious as a tiger when she is in power. has she changed...i dont think so. Incidently, I had to laugh ...calling Islam violent...MORE LIKE THE KETTLE CALLING THE POT BLACK.
sorry for caps guys, I still am chuckling and how daft does rome think everyone is. Islam is no different. Just one of her daughters. Following after momma's example. Yea, a lot of Bull indeed

Chris,
Thanks. She came close enough in my opinion, but I don't know why you and I are sitting here grappling with apparently a woman's teaching anyway, since at least I, probably you also, don't agree with such people teaching Christians how to believe. So, case settled...I have no more to say about Cindy...she should be quiet anyway.

msc, point is she didn't say. For example many Chriatians (including myself and many of my Calvinist friends) believe we go to Paradise / Abrahams bosom if we die before the Lords return; unbiblical notions like soul sleep and purgatory etc were not mentioned in her post. It may be that she believes the latter but she didn't say.

If his recent speech stirred anger towards Muslims, surely an old speech of his should awaken some of us Christians.

As you know the new Testament tells us that Jesus is alive and has risen from the dead and that any who should state that he isn't is of that spirt the Anti-christ. The RC's also belived he was risen, the Jews are still waiting on the messiah, don't know if the Muslims are......but the present Pope, Joseph Ratzinger, who when 'Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger', wrote:

Quote:
Jews do not wait in vain for Messiah
"The Jewish Messianic wait is not in vain," the statement says. "It can become for us Christians a strong stimulus to maintain alive the eschatological dimension of our faith. We, like them, live in expectation. The difference is in the fact that for us, he who will come will have the traits of that Jesus who has already come and is already active and present among us."

What's this, another Jesus?:

2Co 11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
2Co 11:4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel,

Chris,
If someone hints at soul sleep or similar doctrines, I don't have time to sit and ponder. Anything of Seventh-Day Adventist or Jehovah Witness teaching is, in my estimate, outside the bounds of the truth and orthodox doctrine. If Cindy is of such a group, she's the one that has some serious pondering to do before voicing her opinions.

Oh now c'mon GG don't be so chicken!! Otherwise we'll have to call you "Oh ye of little faith."

Surely your great traditions, dogmas and convictions of popery can stand a wee bit of trial and tribulation.
After all is'nt it true that your faith should be tried to prove you're one of the elect.??

And look at the staying power of your brother John Yurich. Can't you take a leaf out of his book.??

GG,

You are not going to get anywhere with these hate filled Fundamentalist Protestants on this site because they do not understand what it means to act Christlike. All they understand is preaching hatred toward all churches that are not Fundamentalist Protestant Churches.

Denny...not at all...I am very aware of the alliances and admiration that many WWII era Arab leaders had for Hitler. After all it only makes sense that the Arabs would seek to emulate the one force that tried to exterminate their ancient blood foe. Perhaps your comments were....too sublime for me to appreciate? You seem to think that the Nazi's were more of a threat than the Islam-o-Facists...the Nazi's didn't care about your religion...but these goons will not only take away your personal freedom, but will demand that you and your children convert to their hideous view of God, upon pain of death. Perhaps we are on the same side, in which case...perhaps you could have made your post more clear? Perhaps you could drop the anti-papal Bull C---?

Note to self:

It is now considered intolerant to quote an historical figure.

Anyway, back to the issue at hand, Spurgeon says...Oh. Nevermind. Wouldn't want to offend anyone

Cindy,

If you believe in soul sleep then you are taking a page out of the heretical teachings of Jehovah Witnesses who believe in soul sleep. Nowhere in the Bible does it teach about soul sleep. Have you forgotten Christ's words to the good thief on the Cross "This day shalt thou be with me in Paradise"? That is very clear that the good thief went to Heaven with Christ after they both passed away.

So....go ahead and make smart-elick quips about the Nazis, your enemies aren't wearing Swastikas, but modern street clothes just like your own - wrote GG

Sadly you exhibit an utter ignorance of the ties of nazism to islam. Historical ties such as the Mufti of Palestine raising a brigade of moslems in Bosnia to fight along the SS. Next time you want to comment on something make sure you know what you're talking about first - it helps.

I felt a bit sorry for the Coptic pope, whose church is directly in the firing line, feeling he had to distance himself from the Roman pope's comment.

A huge fuss about one obscure sentence buried in a long speech. The Vatican has issued a brief explanation, but I'm sure it will say nothing further, realizing it is a waste of time.

The rest is up to all the thin-skinned crazies out there. They'll keep screaming and yelling about it till the next imagined insult diverts them onto another track.

I feel a bit sorry too for those Muslims who understand what the speech was about. If they dare open their mouths about it, their lives won't be worth anything.

Same goes for the Pakistani members of parliament, every one of whom condemned the speech. Imagine what would happen if one of them refused to condemn it.

msc - I wonder if you (like I) have been hanging around here too long? I don't think it is wise or Christian to trot out the 'heretic' title before you know what Cindy means. Just a suggestion, sure I'm gulty of doing that too!

Nice try there, Cindy. However, you got some things amiss. Protestants who believe in the second coming of Christ are not falling for the whore. It's in the Bible...Christ is coming back for his saints, both those alive and in the graves. Do you believe in soul sleep or a similar heretical alternative?

The Nazi's would at least let you choose the religion of your choice provided you weren't of a race that they disapproved of and you didn't oppose the state. And they also have the additional benefit of being on the dust bin of history for 60 years and no one in their right mind would publicly recommend Nazism. The Islam-o-Facists are Here-and-Now and would like you to become a Muslim or they'll cut your head off. And they are in every Industial nation on the face of the earth. So....go ahead and make smart-elick quips about the Nazis, your enemies aren't wearing Swastikas, but modern street clothes just like your own.

Is radical islam a greater threat to the West than the Nazis ideology in Germany was in 1930's?

http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=8427641488814272733&q=obsession+islam

Maybe the Pope was closer to home than he even realized?
