The Presbyterian Church in the USA has endorsed access to cannabis for medical purposes.
The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA) voted to endorse legal access to medical marijuana for seriously ill patients.
By consensus, the denomination passed a resolution “urging Federal legislation that allows for its use and that provides for the production and distribution of the plant for those purposes.â€
This comes just days before a major medical marijuana vote in the U.S. Congress. In the next few days, Congress will vote on an amendment to the Commerce-Justice-State Appropriations bill to prohibit the use of federal funds for arresting medical marijuana patients in those states that allow medical marijuana....
This was put on the list again under "choice news" I want to repeat this is a hysterical( behavior exhibiting overwhelming or unmanageable fear or emotional excess)way to present this article in this list. "Dope"as defined by one dictionary is "an illicit, habit-forming, or narcotic drug". Debating whether any substance is evil in itself and therefore always illicit or unlawful is interesting but should not be a major topic of proclamation of the TRUTH of God to the PCUSA or anyone else. There are many substances that God has created that can be used sinfully. Flour, sugar, coffee, and on & on & on. All substances that we are given by Doctors, Hospitals or the grocery stores can be used in a way that is agaist the law of God in one way or another. It is a lot easier to say a paricular substance is " Dope " and settle a matter in somebody's mind than to give a headline directing the readers to the many aricles about the real apostasy in the PCUSA. These articles might be to hard to understand. http://www.floridabaptistwitness.com/6104.article
This is to Doug. What does what you're saying have anything to do with the use of medical marijuana? What you did is called "trolling a forum," and it is inappropriate--especially from one who clames to be one of God's elect.
I had been a member of the PCUSA for about 30 years when I was saved. However, it was only after the "lights came on" that I came to learn the differences between being a Biblical Christian (Calvinist) and other denominational varieties.
Through involvement with renewal groups within the PCUSA after my conversion, I had the wonderful opportunity to begin to meet church leaders, pastors and others who had also been converted.
Today, a small part of my calling is that of an evangelist to those Elect who are still in the PCUSA. To those Believers who are led here to read this, "come out from among them and be separate".
I pray this Scriptural admonition adds to the Believers' motivation to depart from the sinking PCUSA ship, from which several Believing and significantly-growing denominations have already been established, with more in process this very minute. Godspeed!
The question is not whether THC is proper for 'legitimate' medical use. THC is mind and mood altering in any form. It is not like herbs that were or are used for healing. According to that principle alone it should not be used for such forms of intoxication are forbidden in Scripture. In Revelation 18:23 'sorceries' are condemned. The Greek word used for sorceries is 'pharmakeia' from which we get our term pharmacy. It is defined as the use or administering of drugs.
Does this vote have anything to do with this PCUSA item.??? Quote "The Rev. Joan S. Gray will serve as the titular leader and spokeswoman for the church, which will grapple with issues including homosexuality......"
"PCUSA FOR DOPE" is a hysterical headline. PCUSA has seious problems (Please pray for the Holy Spirit to change them ) but to bring this into our proclamation of Bilical truth to them will divert focus from their apostasy and on to other topics (medical use of Marijuana or THC, etc.). Many disagree on this. NO LAW WRITTEN DOWN BY HUMANITY KEPT ME FROM USING Marijuana,or any other controlled substance in my entire life. I have never used any of these street drugs EVER in my life. I have to be honest, it was not a great struggle. God's grace is wonderful and powerful. The PCUSA may not exist in the near future but the false teaching will probably remain( at least for a time). Proclaim Biblical truth.
However...Marijuana can be taken without being smoked...Marinol is the pill form of the THC that is used to treat cataracts I think. Maybe Marijuana was meant to be an herb for healing.
God did create all living things. And He has a purpose for each of them. We have been brought up thinking that it's such a bad plant. The plant itself is NOT bad...it's how we ABUSED it that makes it look bad. We abused it's purpose so bad that it's now banned in most places.
I have no problem using it if it's for the purpose to heal cataracts and other ailments when ALL OTHER drugs fail.
But to get high...No...not me. I used to get high off of it. It made me paranoid.
Not that I want to agree with the apostates but "PCUSA FOR DOPE", is an unfairly hysterical headline. An overwhelming amount of useful medication contains alcohol, opium, morphine, dilaudid, paragoric, and numerous other "narcotic" substances. Cannabis MAY be usefull in treating some people (I am not 100% convinced). If it does, it is no worse than any other medicine that the Almighty has given us in the form "of every plant and seed" to heal our illnesses. Sadly, marijuana has the stigma of being the "up the establishment" symbol, but that stigma must not be allowed to stop it's potential for medical benevolence. Still, whatever motivated a religious denomination to get involved in this befuddles me.
