Business-backed group aiming to change stereotype of Americans overseas
WASHINGTON - Alarmed by the relentless rise of anti-Americanism around the world, a business-backed group is trying to change the behavior that spawned an enduring stereotype of Americans abroad — loud, arrogant, ill-dressed, ill-mannered and lacking respect for other cultures.
For many years, much of the rest of the world distinguished between the United States and the American people. Americans tended to get better ratings than their country and its policies. But recent surveys show that favorable perceptions of Americans have been shrinking while views on the world’s only superpower grow increasingly hostile.
Enter Business for Diplomatic Action Inc. (BDA), a non-profit organization founded by advertising executive Keith Reinhard after a worldwide survey of attitudes towards Americans convinced him that “our collective personality is one of the root causes of anti-Americanism.â€
Corporate business being used as a means of a make over improvement of American image ? It's corporate lobbying that influences the US government to do the things that tick off the Europeans, Asians, Africans etc. They're not worried about image-they're worried about sales. You can put a dress on a pig, but I still won't kiss her on the mouth.
why single out U.S citizens for criticism when we all know that sterotypes can be widely off the mark like..the Irish are all boozers..the Scots are tight fisted....the Germans are agressive and abrasive...the English know it all..the French know english but just won`t speak it out of spite... ect... ect.
Americans Are Rude and Loud!, They do lack respect for other cultures. Mainly because Americans do not have their own culture. And most americans are predjuce!. Now they want to cry when nobody like them... Cry like a baby! whaaaaaa. We get what we have been taught by out goverment. We get what we deserve.!

It's alright fellas we foreigners don't all think your like this. In fact the few Americans we have here in my local vicinity are quiet and really quite sedate.

Hey, we're perfect why not? Perhaps every American tourist needs a copy of the UGLY AMERICAN book, or a copy of HOW TO WIN FRIENDS AND INFLUENCE PEOPLE? I think nothing is going to have people stop hating Americans, so why not just have several copies of the Bible to pass around and perhaps learn how to tell about the Roman Road in the native language, you might as well have people hate for a good reason rather than a bad one.
