Washington Prayer Breakfast: Ecumenical Affair
WASHINGTON, Feb. 2 (JTA) — It was an odd kind of Protestant evangelical affair, with three Catholics, two Jews and a descendant of the prophet Mohammed, finishing up with a prayer for peace in the Middle East.

The speakers’ list at this year’s National Prayer Breakfast here may have sounded like a punch line, but the organizers appeared to be deadly serious in their attempt to lay to rest talk that the event has fallen into proselytizing.

The speakers included two Jewish and two Catholic U.S. senators; Chief of Naval operations Adm. Michael Mullen, who is Catholic; and Jordanian King Abdullah II, believed to be a descendant of Mohammed.

That meant that of 12 speakers — including President Bush and Bono, the Catholic rock star and advocate of aid to Africa — half did not belong to the evangelical Protestant groups that spurred forward the American tradition of prayer breakfasts. ...

John, I'm just a normal Christian, not an abnormal heretic!

First of all, you're going to an obvious anti-Christian Roman Church, you haven't even made a move out of it!

http://www.johnankerberg.org/Articles/_PDFArchives/roman-catholicism/RC2W1299.pdf

Secondly Syncretism! even though churches that have something true, orginally when they mix it in with the Word of God, it becomes the word of Satan.

Nebraska Jim,

All of the Mainline Protestant Churches in their Statements of Faith, Catechisms and Creeds all state that they believe that Christ is God and they state that they believe in Justification by Faith. So quit stating that the only churches that believe that Christ is God and are the only True Churches are the Fundamentalist and Evangelical Protestant Churches. The Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church believe that Christ is God and thus they are True Churches. All normal Protestants believe that the only cults around are religious organizations that deny that Christ is God like the Jehovah Witness, Mormons and Christian Science and other religious organizations that deny that Christ is God. Why do you have to be an abnormal Protestant instead of a normal Protestant?

G.G., why should I believe anything the Catholic Church says since it has lied through the centuries? The leadership has certainly lied all through the modern child abuse scandals. The leadership has lied in the past, about The Donation of Constantine, q.v. The Encyclopedia Britannica, Catholic just means universal, and so the word would not mean the church has his structure copied after the government of the Roman Empire.

John, these churches you mention no more believe in Christ than the Jehovah's Witnesses or the Mormons, because they have rejected the grace of God. The Roman church and the mainline churches have the marks of a cult.

Nebraska Jim,

CONT. So quit stating that everybody who receives Christ as their Savior has to leave the Roman Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Church or Mainline Protestant Churches and join a Fundamentalist or Evangelical Church or else they will not go to Heaven when they pass away. Obviously that is not the case because of the scenario that I gave.

Nebraska Jim,

I would not tell a Jehovah Witness, a Mormon or a Christian Scientist who had received Christ as their Savior that they could remain in the Jehovah Witness, Mormon or Christian Science churches because those organizations deny that Christ is God and thus if a Jehovah Witness, a Mormon or a Christian Scientist received Christ as their Savior then they would be led by the Holy Spirit to attend a church that believes that Christ is God.

But if a Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox or Mainline Protestant receives Christ as their Savior then they would not be led by the Holy Spirit to leave those churches because those churches believe that Christ is God.

You keep stating that someone who receives Christ as their Savior can not remain in the Roman Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Church or Mainline Protestant Churches or else they will not go to Heaven when they pass away? That is false because if a Roman Catholic Eastern Orthodox or a Mainline Protestant receives Christ as their Savior on their death bed then obviously they would not have time to leave the Roman Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Church or Mainline Protestant Church and join a Fundamentalist or Evangelical Church and yet they would go to Heaven when they pass away. CONT.

Sorry Jim...only the folks who read obscure articles by half-baked amature Prot historians believe that the RCC started with Constantine. Constantine was the guy who gave them the luxury of being the state church of Rome. St Ignatius coined the term 'Catholic' in 110 a.d. Read the New Testament with Catholic eyes and the words of the Didache, and the Church Fathers. Throw those comic-books that you push away!

I don't fully agree with the Pentecost theory,....Christ had a following before Pentecost, but on Pentecost the believers received the Holy Ghost in power.

G.G., I should have pointed out some interesting history to you. The Christian Church dates from the Pentacostal event, Acts 2:1-4 etc. The Roman/Orthodox Church only dates from the time of Constantine:

No, John, it is not a matter of personal preference if a person decides for Christ and thinks that he can remain in an anti-Christian environment. Would you tell a Jehovah Witness or a Mormon that they can stay in their churches if they become Christian? A Christian cannot remain in an apostate church. This is the reason I left the United Methodist Church.

Any religious organization, even if they believe in the Trinity and have any salvation attributed to works is NOT Christian.
(AV)
Romans 4
2 For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath [whereof] to glory; but not before God.

James 2
24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

[Scofield Notes - 1917]

[1] {works}

Cf.
# Jas 2:24
These are two aspects of one truth. Paul speaks of that
which justifies man before God, viz.: faith alone, wholly apart from
works; James of the proof before men, that he who professes to have
justifying faith really has it. Paul speaks of what God sees--faith;
James of what men see--works, as the visible evidence of faith.

Come out of the Catholic Church:

Wayne UK,

It is a matter of personal preference if someone who has received Christ as their Savior leaves or remains in the Roman Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Church or Mainline Protestant Churches after they received Christ as their Savior. When someone receives Christ as their Savior they start being led by the Holy Spirit and if they decided to stay in the Roman Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Church or Mainline Protestant Churches then they would dispense with the unscriptural doctrines and the unscriptural parts to the worship service of the Roman Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Church or Mainline Protestant Churches because of being led by the Holy Spirit to dispense with the unscriptural doctrines and the unscriptural parts to the worship service of the Roman Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Church or Mainline Protestant Churches.

Even if someone who has received Christ as their Savior does not leave the Roman Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Church or Mainline Protestant Churches they would still gain entrance into Heaven when they pass away because of the fact of receiving Christ as their Savior.

Could you explain why many Roman catholics who falsely 'think' they are converted THEN hear the true gospel and are then truly 'saved' by the grace of God...leave the Roman Catholic deception NOW THAT THEY ARE TRULY CHRIST'S SHEEP and no longer deceived by wolves? Matthew 7: 15, John 10: 27.

Why were they unconverted in the Romish system? Why did they come out after salvation and not remain in such?

To get my point will you listen to the testimony of how a Roman Catholic received a tract from a lady...was gloriously saved, left the RC deception and is now a Pastor of an Independant Baptist church in Westminster England.

Nebraska Jim and A believer,

How can you state that there was not a Christian at the Washington Prayer Breakfast? Bush was in attendance and Bush is a Born Again Christian. Just because Bush is remaining Methodist and considers the Roman Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Church and the other Mainline Protestant Churches to be True Christian Churches after receiving Christ as Savioir does not mean that Bush is not a Born Again Christian. Also there were in attendance Evangelical Christians who are Born Again Christians.

How wonderful for people who claim to love others the way Christ does. Whose eyes are only on the soul of the Prodigal. Who are soooo inclusive of the lost in their midst, in order to preach their particular and peculiar 500 year old version of the Christ's Gospel. Who would never single out the individual sinner for rejection. No! Instead, they cast fiery shame and that fierce kind of Protestant self-righteous indignation which we Catholics have so grown to love and appreciate, only upon the heads of the institutional Apostates who so richly deserve their scorn. I say again...what wonderful Christian insularity to object to three Catholics, two Jews and a Moslim. May the holy band of Evangelicals be spared such trafficing with evil (quack!...quack!).

But wait a minute, wasn't President Bush in attendance? The man is getting a free ride by so-called evangelical christians, but probably not God. God is his ultimate judge, but this and his close affiliation with the Church of Rome and its late and current Pope bring into question and doubt which God he serves.

One thing is for certain, it wasn't a Christian gathering. It sounds like there wasn't a Christian there, for that matter.
