Snake 'befriends' snack hamster


Aochan, the snake 'seems to enjoy' being with Gohan, the hamster

A rodent-eating snake and a hamster have developed an unusual bond at a zoo in the Japanese capital, Tokyo.

Their relationship began in October last year, when zookeepers presented the hamster to the snake as a meal.

The rat snake, however, refused to eat the rodent. The two now share a cage, and the hamster sometimes falls asleep sitting on top of his natural foe.

"I have never seen anything like it," a zookeeper at the Mutsugoro Okoku zoo told the Associated Press News agency.

Hi Gayle: Thanks for the correction in semantics. I never realized that the term "old Negro Spiritual" was a musical genre like "Gospel Music". I just thought A) The song was written by a Negro for a Negro, and B) it was old , and C) it was spiritual rather than humanist. I stand corrected and will be more careful in the future in using the term.

Thomas Andrew Dorsey, a black man born in 1899, was "the Father of Gospel Music". 'Peace In The Valley' is not an "old Negro spiritual" but a modern Gospel song written in 1937 for Mahalia Jackson.

Thomas "Tommy" Francis Dorsey, a white man born in 1905, was
"the Sentimental Gentleman of Swing" jazz trombonist and Big Band-leader.
