Schuller's Son to Run Crystal Cathedral

Robert A. Schuller, left, sits with his father Robert H. Schuller in December 1992

GARDEN GROVE, Calif. - The Crystal Cathedral didn't have to look far to find its next senior pastor. Robert H. Schuller, head of the famed all-glass church southeast of Los Angeles, told his congregation Sunday that his son, Robert A. Schuller, will succeed him.

As founding pastor of the church, the elder Schuller, now 79, is considered one of the most influential religious leaders in the country. He plans to remain chairman of the board of international ministries and stay active in the church.

Robert A. Schuller, 51, will be installed as senior pastor on Jan. 22. He and his father will keep appearing together on the church's television show, "Hour of Power," which boasts a worldwide audience of 20 million. ...

What's this, John, the discussion has come to the point that, "my preacher can beat up your preacher?" John, this argument has been settled half of millennium ago, when the Reformers gave a succinct definition of what it takes to be a Christian.

Protestants since the Reformation, and you should say Christians since the New Testament Church. Agree on the following five principles.

A Christian believes that it is:
Individual repentance, one cannot be born a Christian.
It is Christ alone, no belief in works or membership in a particular human organization.
Grace alone, Christ's grace is completely sufficient for our salvation -- again no church can dole it out.
Faith alone, again, we cannot add to what God has given us, or Christ's sacrifice is meaningless.
Scripture alone, you should see enough examples of organizations Christians would consider cults, because they have extra biblical authority.

Just because a person or Church says that it believes in the Trinity doesn't make either a Christian. If an individual this suffering from heartburn rather than a change of heart, does not make him a Christian. It showing only a great love for Satan, if a pastor does not make it clear that the above five principles are a necessity to be a Christian. You are rejecting Christ if you do not accept the above principles.

Gil in love wrote the booklet the Marks of a True Believer, why not read it, John.

Jim from Nebraska,

Your minister needs to repent of all that hatred that he has for Schuller, the Roman Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Church and Mainline Protestant Churches. Your minister needs some psychological evaluation. My brothers minister is a better and truer Christian then your minister is because at least my brothers minister does not preach hatred toward any church that believes in the Holy Trinity.

I'm sure he'll be a real "chip off the old block" and just as effective as Daddy in the evangelical work of the church.

Not quite, Tony, the country has abandoned it's Christian roots, and that why there is this Schuller phenomenon.
Pastor Gil wrote an entire booklet on Schuller, which helped stopped my mother watching him on t.v.

Do you know why Robert Schuller is "one of the most influential religious leaders in the country"?
Because this country has abandoned it's Puritan roots and become a nation of reprobates.
