In a game show-style giveaway, a church plans to award a $120,000 three-bedroom house to one of its worshippers on New Year's Eve.
"It encourages people to come to the service, and it helps keep people off the street with all that revelry going on," said pastor Walter Hallam.
During Saturday's service, 20 names will be selected at random and placed with 100 others chosen from services throughout the year. Twelve finalists _ symbolizing the 12 apostles _ will be selected.

What was that thing which Christians used to donate to and support.? Oh yeah - charity for the poor.??
Encouraging people to come to church is a very expensive buisness in Texas, obviously.???
"..helps keep people off the street..." The mind boogles.
This is gambling in church, - with the Lords providence, - and by those who are supposed to be the Lord's stewards.
let us do everything and anything to bring people and leave their sinful ways intact and unchanged into to the church pragmatism vs the true gospel!!! But preach and teach the true gospel!!!The reasons:it will bring people to church and keep them off the streets ancient israel that made the golden calf--would've said the same excuse to why they did what they did....
This is typical of the degeneration of Western Culture. Lotteries such as this belong to the Kingdom of Darkness...you don't get a house by working diligently, being prompt in your business, praying to God for your needs. No, you get it in one sudden windfall from the 'god' of Luck. This is an insult to those hard-working people in low-paid jobs who will sadly wonder why God has not deigned to 'bless' them with such a windfall - why God has passed them by in favour of whoever will benefit from this hare-brained scheme. I only hope they will know that Jesus Himself will share in their sadness. If the Pastor of that church is reading this post, I urge him to repent of such behaviour.
