Traditional religion is still the bedrock of America, with "very large majorities" of the public steadfast in their belief in God and the birth and Resurrection of Jesus Christ -- with belief in astrology, ghosts and other New Age hallmarks lagging behind.
Overall, 82 percent of Americans believe in God, according to a recent Harris poll, which also revealed that 73 percent also believe in miracles, 70 percent in life after death, 70 percent in the existence of heaven, and 70 percent that Jesus is the Son of God. In addition, 68 percent believe in angels and 66 percent in the Resurrection of Christ.
Six out of 10 believe in the devil and the existence of hell.
Republicans emerged as the most spiritual of all the respondents in the survey -- which included demographic divisions for men, women, three political parties and three levels of education. Republicans' numbers eclipsed results in all...
How many come from peer pressure? How many come from decievers? How many come with "said prayers"? How many come with "decisions"? How many come from cults? How many are Roman Catholic? ... How many are left?
Arthur, we pack them in by sending them to mega-churches or having them watch tele-vangelists.
(AV) James 2 19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. John 17 3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
The distractions seem to cloud a lot of Americans view of Christianty.
Majority of americans believe???Most likely they believe in: God who is their personal genie Jesus christ without the blood heaven as home for them and their sins too ressurection of christ without the power to change their sinful nature angels creature beings to rob God of worship rightfully due to Him and Him alone devil neccesary spice to life hell a place for everyone else but them for they have a hell insurance policy with the christ of their own making
The question is not whether one believes in God; for everyone -- including the "atheist" -- believes in god. (The atheist thinks himself a god.) Most others believe God to be of a perverse nature such as their own nature, Psalm 50:16-21:
16 But to the sinner God has said, Why dost thou declare my ordinances, and take up my covenant in thy mouth? 17 Whereas thou hast hated instruction, and hast cast my words behind thee. 18 If thou sawest a thief, thou rannest along with him, and hast cast in thy lot with adulterers. 19 Thy mouth has multiplied wickedness, and thy tongue has framed deceit. 20 Thou didst sit and speak against thy brother, and didst scandalize thy mother's son. 21 These things thou didst, and I kept silence: thou thoughtest wickedly that I should be like thee, but I will reprove thee, and set thine offences before thee.
The question is, in which god does one believe. Few believe in the God of the Scripture -- the God and Father of our Lord, Christ Jesus.
Regardless what the polls say, the majority of the US does not believe in God. If they did, the country would not be in the shape it is today. People who claim they believe in God and do nothing to stop the laws that are being passed to advance sinful lifestyles both in the church and out, truly do not believe in Him or they would take a stand. They would be fearful of the judgment of their sins.
Most who say they believe in God are described by Jesus when He addressed the woman at the well, 'Ye worship ye know not what.'
"During the 2001 poll, 72% identified themselves as "Christian." This does not necessarily indicate that they are committed Christians.
(some statistics from a variety of sources which indicate that many of these folks are Christian in name only)
The Office of National Statistics found in the 2001 census that: "...half of all adults aged 18 and over who belonged to a religion have never attended a religious service."
Uk.news.yahoo.com reported in 2000 that "[Church attendance in 1999 was] 7.5% on an average Sunday, [down] from 10% in 1989 and 12% in 1979."
A New Scientist Poll in 2002-Autumn showed that "55% of British public do not believe in a higher being.""
I guess the problem with statistical polls - is that experience tells you they just ain't true..??
Quote; "Overall, 82 percent of Americans believe in God, according to a recent Harris poll, which also revealed that 73 percent also believe in miracles, 70 percent in life after death, 70 percent in the existence of heaven, and 70 percent that Jesus is the Son of God.
