France rewrites history
Teachers in France have accused their government of using the tactics of dictators by enacting a law that imposes an "official history" of their country, requiring them to highlight the "positive aspects" of the French empire.

They claim the legislation ignores the torture, slavery and massacres "that sometimes went as far as genocide" and sometimes accompanied French colonialism.

Tony,

You've reached the right conclusion, but not by the most direct path. The point at issue is citizenship; and according to passages such as Colossians 1:13 ("...has translated us..."), the Christian does NOT have "dual citizenship".

The great issue of life is and always has been that of government. Now that the New Covenant has been instituted, the issue specifically is Christ Jesus versus Caesar. Dual allegiance is impossible; one cannot serve two masters.

33k,
A little sarcasm, that's all. Of course it is possible.

My Bible says that God has His remnant from "every tribe and nation". It indicates that the "wall of separation" betwixt folks was torn down by Christ. There is no place for Nationalism in Biblical Christianity. Remember that the Huguenots were French. Remember that Scotland has buried John Knox underneath a parking lot. Remember that the Waldensians were martyred by Rome hundreds of years before Luther in North Italy. And for those of you who can't separate nationalism, and militiarism from Christianity, please remember that without the French, the USA would never have been able to become independant from Britain. Any historian who knows the facts can verify that. But who really cares? Are we not supposed to be citizens of Christ's Kingdom? Is not Luther (German) in glory with Calvin (French) and Zwingli (Swiss) and Spurgeon (English)?

Impossible?

Why?
If Russell can do it, why not Mahmoud Ahmadinejad?
Maybe they're one and the same?
Then again maybe not, maybe Russell never happened?

Inasmuch as France, Germany, Canada, and other nations have made it an offense, punishable by imprisonment, even to question the details of the so-called "Holocaust", why not extend the laws to everything which the government purports to be true?

In those nations, you are free to deny the deity of Christ Jesus and even to deny the existence of God. But you are NOT free to deny or even to question the Holohoax. You are free to curse God, but you are NOT free to speak your mind concerning the Jew.

Only the lie requires the protection of law. Only the lie hides from the light of day. Truth invites scrutiny.

Fact: Over 125,000 Americans died on French & European soil from October 1917 until November 1918 - mostly fighting to free France from German invasion.

Fact: On D-Day - June 6th, 1944 over 2500 Americans died on the beaches in Normandy, France - fighting to free France from German occupation.

Fact: Over 400,000 Americans died fighting in World War 2, again in large part fighting to free France from German occupation.

"What do you expect from a culture and a nation that exerted more of its national will fighting against Disney World and Big Macs than against the Nazis?" ---Dennis Miller
"I would rather have a German division in front of me than a French one behind me."
---General George S. Patton
The French are always reticent to surrender to the wishes of their friends and always more than willing to surrender to the wishes of their enemies.
ok, it wasn't always this way:
Tours, 732 AD: The Muslims had already taken Spain & were well on their way to taking the rest of Europe. The only power with a chance of stopping them was the French army under Charles "the Hammer" Martel, King of the Franks (French), w/ the really cool nickname "the Hammer of God."
A French army heavily outnumbered & w/ no cavalry made the Muslims retreat to Spain. That's worth highlighting.

Forget the vulgar French-bashing. There are two alternatives for intellectually consistent Humanists - statist tyranny, or anarchy. This is a factional quarrel between the French who want unity behind a official statist culture, and those who prefer intellectual anarchy. Both paths lead to judgement by God.

The French have always been off of their rockers. Just look at what DeGaul tried to pull during World War II. DeGaul wanted to be Commander In Chief of the Allied forces and when DeGaul needed penicillan he did not want peniccillan from the United States he wanted the French to make their own penicillan.

France's and Spain's colonies failed because they didn't have Ulster Scots, relentless frontiersmen who unlike Lot's wife, never looked back. These and the Germans were the reason the Anglo-American colonies succeeded.

Wherever the French Empire was, it create sterile soil for democracy. This is what should be taught, but one look at former French colonies and it should be obvious.
