"Polygamy rights is the next civil rights battle." So goes the motto of a Christian pro-polygamy organization that has been watching the battle over homosexual "marriage" rights with keen interest.
"We're coming. We are next. There's no doubt about it, we are next," says Mark Henkel, founder of www.TruthBearer.org.
Traditional values groups often argue that legalizing same-sex "marriage" is a "slippery slope" -- that if marriage is redefined to allow homosexuals to "wed," it will be further redefined to allow other unions, including polygamous ones.
Homosexual rights leaders and their allies insist that the "slippery slope" argument is a rhetorical dodge. It's a "scare tactic," says Freedom to Marry founder Evan Wolfson....
Polyandry /Pol`y·an´dry/ (?), n. [Poly- + Gr. ?, ?, man, male: cf. F. polyandrie.] The possession by a woman of more than one husband at the same time; -- contrasted with monandry. ☞ In law, this falls under the head of polygamy.
Right Engineer, it is a case where a woman weds a bunch of parrots.
John as can already be seen there is so much killing in Moslem countries, even though this does include many women and children, they have a lot of spare widows around.
It may surprise some, but Christian history and practice was one of the main reasons given by the Supreme Court in the late 1800's to oppose polygamy. Without that argument, the practice must eventually be allowed under the American system. There is no other legal argument left, due to the progress of freedom. As Justice Holmes said: "I always say, as you know, that if my fellow citizens want to go to Hell I will help them. It’s my job."
