HINDU and Muslim leaders are urging the Kirk to boost religious teaching in schools in order to counter the "secular society".
David Lacy, the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, said senior clerics from other faiths were now telling him to offer a more "strident" view of Christian beliefs, in order to provide young people with more moral teaching.
Lacy said he did not back Sentamu's comments, insisting that greater multiculturalism had led to more people in Scotland dropping their hostilities to one another.
But he said pressure to assert more Christianity in Scotland was now coming from other faiths, following a meeting of religious leaders from all faiths earlier this month.
they're wanting more christian teaching to counter the secularism that is attacking their society, the same secularism that has pretty much severely infiltrated American society itself. I'm glad to see that clerics from other faiths recognize the value of teaching faith in school, while the US which the rest of the world thinks is a "christian" country, has banned it from schools.
Are they saying that more Christianity needs to be taught due to its eternal truth or that it is not being accepted by people so that culture can be changed??? We are not called to change the culture as much as to change people who in turn will change the culture.
