Dalai Lama asks Idaho religious leaders to seek commonalities

Spiritual leaders from widely diverse faiths gathered to listen to and ask questions Wednesday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama as part of his five-day visit to Ketchum.

HAILEY — Jew and Muslim, Catholic and Native American, Buddhist and Baha'i, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Evangelical Christian — spiritual leaders from across Idaho and beyond convened Wednesday inside a heated marquis at the home of Kiril Sokoloff to chat with His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Sokoloff is the man responsible for bringing the Dalai Lama to Idaho for a five-day visit.

The interfaith dialogue is part of the Dalai Lama's goal to connect with people of different faiths whenever he can. It's his desire to promote understanding of "commonality and not our differences," he said.

Religious diversity is important, he told the group. ...

John 10:1 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.

That includes popes, lamas, and all other false religions.

Hi Elvin,
No, I'm not Roman Catholic.....I'm a Protestant fundamentalist once again, having spent only a year in the Roman Church..that was long enough after joining---too many unscriptural rules, regulations, etc.. I know who alone is all holy, all mighty and the one true Holy Father...God alone. But still, this article should cause Catholics to reconsider and wake up..that's why I'm asking that.

msc, why do you say "How can Catholics manage..." Are you Catholic? Catholism is not Christian. It should be of no surprise that many are blinded. There is one Holiness and it's not a catholic priest but Father, Word and Holy Ghost. I should know. I was catholic from my youth up until Christ saved me from a Chick Tract where I read John 14:6. I would love to describe some passes of scripture that showed the Light of the Gospel against Catholism. God Bless

Again, how can Catholics manage this with rival leaders claiming "His Holiness?"

"he participated in a "prayer service" described by `Time` as "an extraordinary interreligious festival."

The Dalai Lama is a professing false prophet by his own words: "Religious diversity is important," he told the group.
Apostle Paul said, however, there is one Lord and one faith. You can't mix Buhdda, Jesus, HareKrishna, etc...into one amalgamation.

I guess I will ask to give credit where credit is due, but this did come from a Dave Hunt newsletter of 1990, and he still is one of the best-known experts on Catholicism:

"His Holiness" the Dalai Lama of Tibetan Buddhism has long been the Pope's trusted friend and has been well received by Roman Catholic leaders around the world. In 1979, at the start of his first U.S. tour, the Tibetan God-king-in-exile was feted at Roman Catholicism's New York City landmark, St. Patrick's Cathedral, where he participated in a "prayer service" described by `Time` as "an extraordinary interreligious festival." New York's Cardinal Terence Cooke was the host. The Dalai Lama, who declared that "all the world's major religions are basically the same," was given a standing ovation by the overflow crowd of nearly 5,000. Said Cardinal Cooke, who "shared his sanctuary with a rabbi and a Protestant minister as well as his Buddhist guest":

I didn't know that I was going to refer to this article so often, but again for those neo-evangelicals:

And on the evangelicals and Catholics together idea:

I wonder how long he's there...if he still is. Idaho, I'm arriving back on home turf this Saturday...perhaps the Dalai Lama needs to visit a genuine Idaho country church service and see the real Idaho instead of these few ecumenical leaders representing what is probably a small minority of church goers in the Gem State.

They call this man "His Holiness.." What a shame. These people have spiritual blindness as Isaiah and Jesus had prophesied. They have a form of godliness but inwardly they are ravenous wolves in sheeps clothing. Jesus said what does light have in common with darkness? The obvious answer is ...nothing. Therefore this man is most unholiness and of his father the devil as Jesus also condemned the Scribes and Pharisees of his days. They are anti-christs which have gone out into all the world which will wax worse and worse until Jesus returns. I pray the Lord Jesus keep us rooted in the true Word of God and discern and keep from evil.

That won't be necessary; they've already drunk the wine of Rev. 18:3.

I little "dialogue" and all the misunderstandings will be cleared up, truth will be negotiated, in Hegelian fashion (i.e., antitheses resolved into synthesis).

"RoseMarie, I was born in SoCa. I can hardly imagine what it's like there now, over 30 years later, but I may be making a long overdue visit there soon to see family."

If you're from there, it may not be so shocking. But I do remember that the first 2 years I lived there, I had a very difficult time. We moved from there 4 years ago. I don't miss it. If you do go back, I hope you're able to find a good church to visit while you are there.

How can Catholics even do this with the Dalai Lama in good conscience? I thought the Pope was His Holiness.

RoseMarie, I was born in SoCa. I can hardly imagine what it's like there now, over 30 years later, but I may be making a long overdue visit there soon to see family.

"RoseMarie, if you think Idaho is diversified, try northern California. It makes Idaho look like heaven."

I lived in SoCal for 10 years. Can that be enough?

RoseMarie, if you think Idaho is diversified, try northern California. It makes Idaho look like heaven. But yeah, Idaho has its few oddities too. Still though, it's a home of many conservatives.

"I am still perplexed why this false prophet arrived in my home state, among the most conservative of states in the U.S."

I lived in Idaho for a short period of time years ago. It's an unusual state. Survivalists, Mormons, artsy folk, etc. Much more diversified then I was expecting. But yeah, I guess it does seem a little weird. A little.

I am still perplexed why this false prophet arrived in my home state, among the most conservative of states in the U.S. Times must be changing, but not for the better, even in Idaho.

"Jew and Muslim, Catholic and Native American, Buddhist and Baha'i, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Evangelical Christian.....Religious diversity is important, he told the group"

He's a false prophet indeed. Apostle Paul said there is one Lord and one faith. Surely there has to be an article about those who protested...the true Protestants.
