SANTIAGO, Chile - A 7.9 magnitude earthquake shook northern Chile late Monday, the U.S. Geological Survey said on its Web site.
Local television in northern Chile said the quake drove residents from their homes and caused power outages. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
Local authorities could not immediately be reached for comment.
