Schools requiring Bible readings over summer
Fran Eppy was taken aback when she looked at her son's summer reading list. His only requirement was to read passages from the Bible.

The English Department at West Boca Raton High School is asking all incoming 11th-graders to read from the book of Genesis over the summer. Nearby Olympic Heights High School also requires the reading for students in honors 11th-grade English classes.

It's an assignment that educators say will better prepare students for much of the American literature they'll study next school year. ...

One young man in high school told me that his English text contained several of the psalms and they read that in class. I don't see why the teacher would pick genesis as a source for reading. Maybe someone here has some insight as to how that particular book would prepare students for reading american literature.

And for those of you that want to argue back and forth about jews and the holohoax, why don't you do this in a more appropriate place like http://www.sermonaudio.com/survey_details.asp?VoteID=he101049825

Mr. Harris,

It is almost poposterious that one such as yourself could make light of the horrendous crimes, persecutions and deadly burnings that Hitler and his "white race" focused crazies promoted in Germany.

To say that even 100,000 jews were tortured and burned to death, rather than 6,000,000 and make light of this historical event just goes to show the public how twisted some of these white supremist types are in the world.

I'm sure your people will again come after me privately after my comments above, but I am utterly amazed at how you people call yourselves Gospel preaching Christians.

It really is a tragic cult that is growing around the world.

ARCH - If you take the trouble to investigate for yourself -- or even travel to Eastern Europe and visit Auschwitz and read the inscriptions on the plaques -- you shall find that the official count has fallen dramatically over the years.

If I recall correctly, it now stands at a little over one hundred thousand -- a far cry from the six million figure which the talking heads on television repeat almost nightly.

Curiously, the mystical six million figure also was being cited after the FIRST world war.

Jim from Nebraska - It is only through incessant propaganda (or over fifty years now, the "Holocaust" receives daily mention on TV newscasts and in the papers), "museums" in virtually every American city, censorship, and threat of fines and imprisonment, that the fiction of the "Holocaust" can perpetuated. You need to investigate Ernst Zundel, who, by a Canadian court, was told that "truth is no defense". Only the lie requires protection from scrutiny.

Russell, I didn't get to read your original message, thankfully, says that was removed. Did you know that General Eisenhower ran the civilians that lived near the death camps through them, so they couldn't make the excuse they didn't know about the Holocaust? I don't always you have been reading, Russell -- though there are a few people who deny what happened to the Jews, in fact one in England got raked over the coals, legal ones, so badly I don't think he shows is face in public again. Again, I would suggest you go visit the website how your fellow Texan:

http://www.levitt.com

for more information, and for that matter:

http://www.ihcc.org/images/booklets/pdf/L127.pdf

Reading the Bible as literature, and as great as It is as literature, debases the Bible as the Word of God of God. I hope the parents of the students go over the actual meaning of the Scriptures after class.

In a 1983 interview, Margaret Atwood said, "You can't study English literature without knowing something about the Bible, ..., and you have to know it, because it comes up in so much literature that was written in English" (Margaret Atwood: Vision and Forms, Carbondale: Southern Illinois UP, 1988, page 215).
Pagan Harold Bloom's study of The Western Canon: starts with the Bible:"of all the books that are in this first list, once the reader is conversant with the Bible...etc."
He offers bizzare sources for the literature of the Bible: but recommends reading it.
Atheist, humanist, science and science fiction author Isaac Asimov recommended reading the Bible, and wrote a commentary on the entire Bible.

Mortimer Adler's Great Books collection is FILLED with books that reference the Bible: (Adler became a Christian, by the way)
It is impossible to really read and understand much of subsequent Western Literature and Thought without it. Imagine reading Dante or Chaucer without knowing the Bible.

Of course, the parents can object to their kids reading the King James Bible, but it will just rob them of a decent education.
The POWER of God's Word scares many people, who WISH that Western culture were not founded on the Book of Books.

Arch,

I think that being a, quote, "Zionist lover" is a bit extreme. One does not have to be a Zionist lover to acknowledge:

First, that the Scriptures make it perfectly and abundantly clear the Jews will be brought back into the grace of God in an unprecedented way as if "life from the dead".

"14If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh, and might save some of them. For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead? For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches" (Rom.11:14-16).

Second,

History is overwhelming clear that millions were destroyed by Hilter, and also Stalin for that matter, and for one to use select statements from liars and other hate filled historians to prove otherwise is foolishness. Some of the most compelling research comes from non-jews, and the research I've read from the Christian Identity movement is full of half truths to justify their Scriptural presuppositions.

I am no zionst lover but i must say that
Russelles statement that the murder of millions of jews never happened is very worring as i live in a country where true history has been papered over i think its dangerous for people like russell to post things like this as it makes the chances of the same thing happening again very easy

Mr. Harris,

Please explain this to me as if I were a young child. It comes from your web site and is a public statement you make:

"This ministry is directed to the peoples of the world which historically have embraced Christianity--namely, the Caucasians, the Anglo-Saxons, the Celts, the Scandinavians, the Germanic tribes, and kindred groups which inhabit Western Europe and North America. Because of their embrace of Christianity, these groups collectively have been known as `Christendom', that is, `the kingdom of Christ'. Not surprisingly, these traditionally-Christian peoples are none other than the literal, physical descendants of the tribes of ancient, Biblical Israel--an undeniable fact which is supported by an abundance of historical evidence. Contrary to popular notion, the so-called `lost tribes of Israel' did not disappear from the face of the earth; however, their identity as Israelites was obscured through the process of deportation following the conquest of Israel by Assyria, circa 721 B. C., and by their subsequent migrations."
