Fran Eppy was taken aback when she looked at her son's summer reading list. His only requirement was to read passages from the Bible.
The English Department at West Boca Raton High School is asking all incoming 11th-graders to read from the book of Genesis over the summer. Nearby Olympic Heights High School also requires the reading for students in honors 11th-grade English classes.
It's an assignment that educators say will better prepare students for much of the American literature they'll study next school year....
One young man in high school told me that his English text contained several of the psalms and they read that in class. I don't see why the teacher would pick genesis as a source for reading. Maybe someone here has some insight as to how that particular book would prepare students for reading american literature.

It is almost poposterious that one such as yourself could make light of the horrendous crimes, persecutions and deadly burnings that Hitler and his "white race" focused crazies promoted in Germany.
To say that even 100,000 jews were tortured and burned to death, rather than 6,000,000 and make light of this historical event just goes to show the public how twisted some of these white supremist types are in the world.

Did you know that General Eisenhower ran the civilians that lived near the death camps through them, so they couldn't make the excuse they didn't know about the Holocaust? Reading the Bible as literature, and as great as It is as literature, debases the Bible as the Word of God of God. I hope the parents of the students go over the actual meaning of the Scriptures after class.
In a 1983 interview, Margaret Atwood said, "You can't study English literature without knowing something about the Bible, ..., and you have to know it, because it comes up in so much literature that was written in English" (Margaret Atwood: Vision and Forms, Carbondale: Southern Illinois UP, 1988, page 215). Pagan Harold Bloom's study of The Western Canon: starts with the Bible:"of all the books that are in this first list, once the reader is conversant with the Bible...etc." He offers bizzare sources for the literature of the Bible: but recommends reading it. Atheist, humanist, science and science fiction author Isaac Asimov recommended reading the Bible, and wrote a commentary on the entire Bible.
Mortimer Adler's Great Books collection is FILLED with books that reference the Bible: (Adler became a Christian, by the way) It is impossible to really read and understand much of subsequent Western Literature and Thought without it. Imagine reading Dante or Chaucer without knowing the Bible.
Of course, the parents can object to their kids reading the King James Bible, but it will just rob them of a decent education. The POWER of God's Word scares many people, who WISH that Western culture were not founded on the Book of Books.
I think that being a, quote, "Zionist lover" is a bit extreme. One does not have to be a Zionist lover to acknowledge:
