A Seventh-day Adventist pastor warned yesterday that he will stop officiating at funerals at his Hagley Park church if female mourners, especially of young murder victims, continue to turn up in skimpy dresses and the men smoke ganja and drink beer and other alcoholic beverages on the premises.
"We are sorry that the day will come when we will not allow your funeral at the church," the Rev Roy Gordon told the congregation attending the funeral of two children - Paul Brown, six, and his sister Sabrina Tulloch, three - who died in a fire at their Duhaney Park, Kingston home a fortnight ago.
"Funeral service is a worship to help others to recognise that God will help them in their grief," Gordon said. "You either work with us or we cannot do your funerals."
"I am on the verge of stopping community funerals, especially those funerals where the deceased were murdered, because of the intolerable...
Bro.Gorden,If you were not a 7th day heretic,I would invite you to preach on my t.v.program.Jamaica must be about like America in how slovenly and indecently the people dress And as for the pastor having something to say about how people dress in the church,I am a Baptist pastor and I certainly have the responsiblity of setting the standard at our church.Who else has?Did God call you as pastor? If you dont have any convictions about decent dress, then you dont need to be trying to pretend that you are so holy and sanctified The Bible teaches modest apparell, sexual purity, and "love not the world"!We have filled the so-called "churches"with so much worldliness it has pushed out God and His word.People better get back to Biblical Christianity or be prepared to watch as our society becomes more and more evil.Sodomy is taking over not only secular society, but even in the religious community. Makes me sick to think that someone could be so hardened against the Word of God that they think that God accepts any and all lifestyles without question. A salvation that wont make you want to dress right, wont make you die right Does the phrase "BORN AGAIN"(Jn.3:3,5,7)mean anything today? or JESUS said YES
God bless you Pastor Gorden for speaking the truth. As we see from other comments the truth is not accepted well today. Our Precious Saviour has given you a work to do, we will hold you in our prayers. We are told in the last days things would wax worse and worse. Maranatha. In The Masters Service.
No, Neil, Ellen G. White, the prophetess of the Seventh-Day Adventist church, owns it. ;-)
I should refer to an article that is on the front page of the BBC News site where a Muslim girl gets to wear her head to toe Islamic outfit to school, as a religious right. Perhaps this Adventist preacher should hand out jump suits to people for going to funerals -- black ones of course -- and then they will be properly dressed. I do wonder in the British case if the Society of Nudists hard going to demand the same rights for their children? ;-) :-(
Sounds like Jamaica has a major crime problem. Anyhow, while I symphathize with his concerns, the minister's statements reveal to us his views on polity: "I cannot allow that to continue in my church." Is he the sole owner and proprietor?
