BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) â A founding member of the Bakersfield multi-platinum band Korn is leaving the group to focus on his religious beliefs.
"Korn has parted ways with guitarist Brian 'Head' Welch, who has chosen Jesus Christ as his savior, and will be dedicating his musical pursuits to that end," read a statement posted this week on the band's Web site.
Welch told The Bakersfield Californian that his decision to leave Korn might be surprising to some.
"My old friend called today and said he was called up by another friend of mine who said, 'Who brainwashed Brian?'" Welch quipped. "Man, you guys don't even know ... A lot of people think I'm crazy. I don't care."
Saved? We will see.It would be great to see a real "New Birth" change take place, wouldn't it?A Harley biker pulled in my yard at 2:30a.m.and at 5:30 a.m.got saved. He left about 11:00and came back with new clothes, and without his beard and shoulder-length hair. With no prompting from anyone,I might add. When a person is born again, their entire life changes.Music, lifestyle, dress, haircut, etc. IICor.5:17"Therefore if any man be in Christ,he is a new creatureld things are passed away;behold, all things are become new." I fear that many of these folks just get tired of some aspects of their lifestyle, and want to get rid of the things that are hurting them, but want to keep on living like they want to.The rock n roll crowd that is now populating our churches are salivating for heroes that will profess but not posess true Christianity. Then they themselves can keep their dancing, dangling drug scene hair, loose morals, social drinking, and sexually suggestive clothing.God changes people when they get saved.I was a 23 year old drunkard, dancer, cusser,&etc.into the popular music of my time. When I got saved,I got a decent haircut, threw out my old music, and went to church. Amen!Better make sure its Salvation, not just religion.BIG difference!!!
Pray ... God can and will lead him , he will mold him and shape him to be just what he wants him to be , not what we want him to be . Pray that Gods will be done and nothing more . And if by coming forward and admitting that he is born again , one person comes to Christ , then nothing is lost , but one person saved ! And thats wonderful .
I have seen several public figures, particularly musicians, who have started a walk with Christ, continued in a public profession & ended up presenting a poor witness to the power of Christ. I regret the result of public figure proclaiming Christ & then turning from that belief into some other path. I see wisdom in a strong musician/performer who turns to Christ stepping out of the view of the public until they have become a strong Christian. A new Christian needs a time to grow & become established before stepping back into public life as a Christian. Kerry Livgren, who has retired from public life, was part of the group Kansas for several years, even as a young Christian, before he was convicted about his chosen profession & decided to make changes that would honor the Lord. He now lives in the state of Kansas, maintains his music for his personal pleasure & is following the Lord as a non-public figure. Phil Driscoll is another former ârockerâ who has maintained his walk with Christ. The world looks for people like Brian Welsh to fall apart in their walk with Christ, but I would encourage Christians to stand with performers like Brian & not expect their fall, nor raise them above the level of what they are; baby Christians.
AS one who has been saved from the "rock n' rol" lifestyle, I feel for this fellow. I too was praised and paraded as a trophy for Christ and ended up falling back into the lifestyle of drugs and booze very quickly after. Because of the extreme presure of "representing" God's converting power, I forced myself to live two lives: one of a "Holy Ghost filled, long-haired, ex-rocker" and the other of a secret user who still snuck back to my old haunts to use dope and booze. Before I knew it I was in a worse prison than before I had been "saved". I blame the Arminian, modern-evangelical church who through theological error regarding TRUE repentance (ie: leaving ALL of the rock n' roll lifestyle behind and beginning to live a QUIET life of good works before God and men), as well as the modern, "world imitating" church that lives as close to possible to the world (dress, music, etc). It was a solid 6 or 7 years of this hell before Free Grace got hold of me and God lead me to re-examine my faith in light of Historic Protestantism. Now by God's grace I understand what and how a "God-fearing" Christian is to live before this fallen world. God is able to keep a man, but I would bet money that this Brian fellow will soon be paraded around by Satan as a fool...like I was. Pray for this man.
Well, obviously he will be going the way of the world. All reports say he plans on producing music that is "positive" and not "Christian", to make music that has love, but "doesn't say it". Also the church plans to use Head to promote new branches of their "rock'n'roll" church. Christ has power (Head says the church helped him off meth), but Churches are so lost these days, they have no wisdom in discipling newcomers. All churches are going "rock". No body sees anything wrong with it. It's very discoraging.
This reminds me of the recent Stephen Baldwin conversion. The celebrity is "converted" and suddenly they are a spokesman for all of Christianity. They're an advertisement for unwise pastors who seem to say "Look Christianity is all cool. It won't bring you down. You can still rock and be a Christian." Very discouraging.
The world loves a story. Pray for his discipleship. Pray that his popularity with the world will not cause the church to promote him as the world has done. The denial of self will be hard when the "church" will lift him up. I Timothy 3:6 is clear of not promoting a novice. Yes this is for a Bishop, but the principle still applies.
Cleary it is our hope that he is not following in those footsteps, instead of critical skepticism I think prayer on his behalf and thanksgiving to God for his election are in order. When you were saved were Christians first responses to you skepticism that you were just like the millions of other almost converts in this world.
CHRISTIANS JOIN TOGETHER. PRAY, TRUST, BELIEVE. PRAY, TRUST,BELIEVE AND KEEP ONPRAYING, TRUSTING AND BELIEVING. GOD IS STILL IN CONTROL. HE IS KING!!! HE WILL TAKE CARE OF HIS AND THE WORLD JUST AS HIS WORD SAYS. THE WAY HE TELLS US IT WAS, IS AND WILL BE IS RIGHT IN LINE WITH HIS WORD. WE NEED TO SPEND MORE OF OUR NEGATIVE ENERGY IN WORSHIP, PRAYER AND TRUSTING AND BELIEVING HIM. GOD MADE A WAY FOR US TO GET WORD FAST FROM ALL PARTS OF THE WORLD NOT TO BE NEGATIVE BUT HE IS GIVING US WAYS TO SEE THINGS WE NEED TO BE PRAYING ABOUT.
It is unfortunate, but I must say that it is possible that some of these musicians are still walking with the Lord. But because of bad teaching in the church, you can't tell the difference between them and the world.
Obviously we hope he doesn't follow in the train of other HALF-CONVERTED musicians such as Kerry Livgren (Kansas), Bob Dylan - where is his testimony now since the album "Saved"? Alice Cooper, son of a Phoenix pastor who supposedly was converted at a Ligonier Ministries conference but one wouldn't know now, or the guitarist for Grand Funk Railroad, Mark Farner.
