Churches gather to discuss a new ecumenical future
Some 300 representatives from the major Christian denominations in England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales gather in Swanwick, Derbyshire, this week – for what could be the last Assembly of its kind held by the official ecumenical body Churches Together in Britain and Ireland (CTBI).
CTBI, formerly the Council of Churches for Britain and Ireland, was established in 1990 alongside ecumenical bodies in each of the nations. The impetus began with the Pope’s historic visit to Britain in 1982 and developed into the idea of ‘creative space’ to sustain more effective cooperation between Anglican, Catholic, Free Church, Black Majority and Orthodox Christians.
The new ecumenical bodies succeeded the rather better known British Council of Churches. But financial pressures on historic denominations, plus the changing nature of mission in a fast-moving world, has led to renewed debate about the best...
well, its refreshing to see there are watchmen on the wall who are awake. we bereans know that a one world church and one world government will form before the Lord returns. if we bereans all get together with each other, then wont we just be sitting ducks, I've always wondered. for one thing, the wheat the tares will grow together. Even with a small flock of bereans there are bound to be foolish virgins too.So the best it gets is toworship according to the regulative principle of worship, acceptable, apostolic worship, letting the Lord bless and speak to us through our faithful ministers, pray, fast, encourage one another, be involved in each others lives, and be soul winners to the many who are perishing for the famine for the word of God. The Lord will never forsake the works of His own hands. He will see us through the dark times ahead and theinevitable persecution of true believers in the Lord Jesus Christ who obey His commandments. He builds His church. Any plant that the Father hath not planted will be rooted up. Leave them alone. Let the blind lead the blind and both will fall into the ditch. That comfort is in Matthew l5. If anyone is looking for a biblical denomination you can check out the Heritage Reformed Congregations, for eg. hrcj.org to taste Puritan worship and
Let's see. Roman Catholic plus Southern Baptist equals...ummm Roman Catholic. RC plus United Methodists...equals...Roman Catholic. Hmmm...I see a pattern that could be taking shape... They are called Southern Baptists or Methodists or Anglican. But they honor the Pope, Mary, Mass, etc. Hmmm...yep Was once many little denominations now become Roman Catholic accepting. Pretty soon, it will be all Roman Catholic. Yep. That is what happens when a few churches combine and overlook each other's heresy, the become one bigger group, the the bigger groups will eventually form together then they become the BIG groups and then the Romish Council will eat 'em all up and invite the muslims and the Jews and the Buddhas and Shintos and Hindus in and WHALLA!!! ONE WORLD CHURCH. Maybe we won't see it in it's final stages, but it's coming. Now if we, the bereans, can come together in one place and pray and fast and have a REVIVAL. Maybe we can put a big heavy dent in the whole mess, eh?
I John 4:18 "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear"
These days, men are conditioned to submit to peer pressure and to compromise, whether in the schoolyard, boardroom, legislature, or ecumenical conference. But this is really nothing more than fear of men, rather than of God. With His power, this must be purged. Then true unity may be possible.
This is amusing -- almost -- the Pope inspired this ecumenism. This may be idea bad from the very beginning. These folks seem to have forgotten that the Catholic Church is the only correct one, as far as it is concerned, and all other bodies are supposed to fall into step, before the eventual absorption by the RCC.
True Christians at least know which churches to leave.
