Paisley: IRA Bank Raid Role Bars Sinn Fein from Peace Process
Millions of pounds were stolen from the bank on 20 December
Sinn Fein have ruled themselves out of the political process in Northern Ireland because of the IRA’s alleged involvement in last month’s £26 million bank heist, Democratic Unionist Party leader Ian Paisley said today.
Dr Paisley called for the restoration of the province’s suspended political institutions, with Sinn Fein excluded.
He said he was not willing to enter into any discussions whatsoever with a party with links to a group which continued to take part in criminal activity.
Northern Ireland Chief Constable Hugh Orde last week said that he believed the Provisional IRA was involved in the raid on the Northern Bank in Belfast shortly before Christmas, sparking a fresh crisis in the peace process.
