Pastor Eddie Parker of Grace Baptist Church in Roswell, Ga., kneels and prays along with Rob Adonis, left, and others during an altar call before the main event at Ultimate Christian Wrestling at Zoomtown in Holly Springs, Ga.
Turn the other cheek? How about break the other arm? In the world of Ultimate Christian Wrestling, the meek aren't exactly blessed.
Usually they're bashed, bounced and power-bombed.
Perhaps the most extreme among extreme evangelists, these good news bruisers are primed to put Satan in a sleeper hold.
A loose network of pro and semipro wrestlers, UCW is the brainchild of Rob Fields, an otherwise mild-mannered English teacher at Woodstock High School in metro Atlanta. Fields, who lives near Atlanta, has been bodyslamming for God since last summer and claims more than 200 souls saved.
There have already been posts below to show what Biblical wrestling is.
Stick up for worldliness if you like, but remember, bodily excercise profiteth little.
There are even road racers who "race for Jesus", with John 3:16 painted on their cars.
So eternity is "sorted", fellows, now we can carry on with our racing, wrestling,or any other wordly pursuit, and place the lovely holy name of the Lord Jesus alongside what we are doing, and that makes the "entertainment" alright ? What hypocrisy !What an insult to my precious Saviour!
Hey I always wanted to be a wrestler when I was growing up and even afterwards. After becomming a Christian several years ago it was something that I felt was not right to think about anymore because the way wrestling has gone over the last several years. I think that it is awesome that there is a Christian wrestling organization for adults and kids who like this form of entertainment. As far as "using" this as a way to evangelize ... that is between Rob Fields and the LORD (I. Jn. 3:21). The people who made negative comments about this man in a indirect way & the wrestling entertainment/ministry he is involved in really need to check themselves. "Fields' crew wrestles for little or no pay, and the boss takes no salary, using the love offering collected at weekly matches, plus sponsor support, to cover costs."
Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. (Col 3:23-24) It sounds like the right heart to me. Unlike many other socalled ministries that have questionalbe motives for the offerings they collect and/or preach ANOTHER Gospel as well. John
Peter, re your reference to how entertaining this is for the kids fo a saturday night, because they mention God...how far we have come from the times of the Puritans, whom spent saturday evening "preparing" their hearts, souls, minds, for the Lord's day,on their knees in prayer, and reading and meditating an open Bible.
..what a bunch of lukewarmm professors of Christ we have become- and it makes the Lord sick.
Just another example of someone using what they LIKE instead of what Jesus said:"Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." It is not our responsibility to make the word of God acceptable to the world, but to make the world aware of the Word of God and allow them to accept it or not.It has been my experience that those that make "professions of faith" at shindigs like this or "christian" rock concerts, never make the transition to "possessions of faith" which would transform their lifestyle to one acceptable to GOD!II Cor. 5:17"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." We do not have to cow down to every lifestyle, opinion, personal preference, or worldly lust to get REAL converts! God still saves SINNERS FROM THEIR SINS!!!IF we preach it just as God SAID it!Anything else is just religious deception.Jesus will save you "as you are", but then you will be "as you WERE",Amen??
My Bible tells me that Christians "wrestle not against flesh and blood ,but against pricipalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.." (Ephesians 6:12)
Everyone knows that real wrestlers are really play acting, so what does that say of them who "profess" to be Christians? Why dont they get out of the ring and get in their closet on their knees with an open Bible?
