WASHINGTON ‚ÄĒ In a magazine interview, President Bush (search) said evil people can become good, but as for Al Qaeda mastermind Usama bin Laden (search), "This guy's soul is so corroded, there's just no way."
"As far as I'm concerned, there's nothing redeemable about him," the president told Ladies' Home Journal in an April interview at his Texas ranch and published in the magazine's new issue, with the cover featuring photos of George and Laura Bush and John and Teresa Heinz Kerry.
Bush also agreed with the magazine's interviewer that there are indications America is having a spiritual reawakening. People are "a bit more religious in America," he said, and added he was referring to Jews, Christians and Muslims alike....
Bush's public speculation about Usama's spiritual condition is unnecessary & inappropriate. For this case, it is simple: anyone who sheds blood w/o cause is the enemy of both God and man, and must be put to death, judicially if possible, militarily if necessary (Gen. 9:6, Ex. 21:12, Acts 25:11). That is the only thing the civil ruler need concern himself with, at least publicly. It would make no difference if Usama were a professing Fundamental Baptist.
What a foul thing to say! George and other Arminians like him reveal their true colors when they talk like this. Deep down, many modern evangelicals belive that they were actually good enough to save! On soul-searching, I myself belived this, but the Holy Spirit through the scriptures convinced me of Grace and my wretched state before God saved me! My every action, as the good reformer says, convinces me more and more that I am a child of Adam! God help America to get back to the old Calvinism that preaches Wrath against sin and Salvation through Free Grace! Lest the Lord had made me willing, I would still be as much an infidel as Osama or George Bush!
DJFAN88, I invite you to pick up your bible and read what the Apostle Paul had to say about his own spiritual state before "it pleased" God to call him out of his sinful and self-righteous condition. First and foremost, salvation is of the Lord. Jonah 2:9
Unfortunately, Osama is too embedded in his religion of Islam to change without Divine intervention, like with what happened with Saul of Tarsus. How can Bush call Islam a great religion and say Osama is unable to be redeemed? Bush doesn't recognize what Islam is really about.
I will point out that the Jews do worship the same God that we do, but it is not effective, because they have not accepted the Jewish Messiah, Jesus. However, even ignoring the importance of a physical Israel in God's plan, Israel is the only democracy, nuclear power, and intellectual resource that is ally in that area.
We'll have to add people like John McCain and the Pope to the lost soul categories that Bush seems to be friendly with, he should also get his wife and children out of the Methodist church and his parents out of the Episcopalian one.
Now I hope we have spread the net wide enough for all the heathens! I agree many Bible believing Christians don't seem to believe in reading it.
My Bible tells me that nothing is impossible with God. I would like to remind President Bush (who claims to be a Bible believing Christian), that unless his buddies in Israel (like Sharon) & his buddies in the Administration (like Fleischer & Wolfowicz) receive Christ, they are just as damned as will be an unrepentent Bin Laden. Despite what many of us fundamentalists believe, looking to the Cross of Christ is not synonomous with looking to the Stars & Stripes, and/or the Star of David.
Bush in inconsistent with himself. Surprise, surprise.
He has previously gone to great lengths to say that Muslims worship the same God that Christians do, and ditto for the Jews. He has praised Islam as a great religion repeatedly. Bin Laden is a devout follower of Islam, looked up to by millions of Muslims throughout the world as a giant of the Islamic faith.
So, he's a devout follower of a great religion, one which worships the same God as the Bible reveals, and yet Bush thinks he's not redeemable. I'd have thought, with everything Bush has previously said about Islam, he'd have to admit that Bin Laden is certainly already redeemed by his giant-like faith in a great religion.
Let's be honest; if the guy sitting next to you Sunday morning spouted the exact same things Bush spouts continually, honestly, wouldn't you seriously doubt that guy's conversion? C'mon, be honest. And yet you'd think you'd just blasphemed the Most Holy Name if you publically express among Evangelicals that same doubt concerning Bush. He MUST be saved because Billy Graham converted him!!!
I agree with you fellows. The idea if Osuma is redeemable, apparently has three opinions on it -- Bush's, mine, and God's. This time I tend to agree with Bush on Osuma, but it is only God's opinion that counts.
Just about everywhere else in that article, I know that President Bush's opinion is wrong. There is only one way to God, and that is through Christ. I hope President Bush opens up his Bible, instead of listening to Methodist ministers and famous evangelists.
Is there anything impossible for God? Has not he made the blind, the lame? God is sovereign in all matters, including salvation of even the most vilest sinner.
Bush would do well to become familiar with the word of Scripture, particularly the life of Manasseh, King of Judah or for that matter Saul of Tarsus. Finally, outside of Christ, is there anything God could find redeemable about any of us?
