World Mag Article: Maybe Christians havenâ€™t been thinking small enough

I have suggested before in this space that we American Christians ought to learn to think smaller. I hope I am wise enough to reflect on my own advice.

Ever since the Tower of Babel, sinful people have preferred to think big. We have, to use the Psalmistâ€™s terminology, â€œexercised ourselves in matters too great for us.â€ We may not literally have shaken our fist in Godâ€™s face, and we would have been shocked if someone had referred to our ambitions as â€œrebellion.â€ Yet if we were to examine our aspirations with brutal honesty, weâ€™d be embarrassed how much of the Babel-like â€œLet us make a name for ourselvesâ€ pervades what we do.

i see...

... well, some encouragements from God's word (2 from each testament) to help us think small then dear saints...

1). I am small and despised: yet do i not forget thy precepts. (Psalm 119:141)(how we as the Lord's people feel small and despised so often.)

2).For who hath despised the day of small things?...the eyes of the LORD..run to and fro through the whole earth.(Zechariah 4:10 )

3)There is a lad here , which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes... (John 6:9 )(and what lovely practical delights we learn from this miracle of our Saviour ! )

4)...it is a very small thing that i should be judged of you,or of mans judgment....but he that judgeth me is the Lord. (1 Corinthians 4,3-4)
