TORONTO, April 15, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Christian printer Scott Brockie was fined $5,000.00 in 1999 by the Ontario Human Rights Commission because he refused to print blank letterhead and envelopes for the Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives.
Brockie had printed materials for clients with homosexual inclinations, but would not print materials for the Archives because he believed the Archives further homosexual activity, which is contrary to his religious beliefs. The adjudicator claimed that Brockie was free to express his beliefs in his home or Christian community, but ordered him to provide printing services "to lesbians and gays and to organizations in existence for their benefit."
The Court of Appeal recently handed down their decision regarding the awarding of costs from Brockie's time in the Divisional Court. Brockie was initially awarded $25,000 in costs from the Divisional Court, but...
Ken, It is good to see you back posting. I appreciate the sobriety of your comments.
"So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me. When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand. Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul. Therefore, O thou son of man, speak unto the house of Israel; Thus ye speak, saying, If our transgressions and our sins be upon us, and we pine away in them, how should we then live? Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?"
Daniel, two things. First, don't forget the first part of the prayer you partially recited. The beginning spells out that those he was wishing ill had done him, him specifically, wrong. They were particular people, who were deceitful against him, lying about him, saying words of hatred, and fighting against him without a cause. Again, these specific people he loved, and in return for his loving them, they became his adversaries. These folks rewarded him with evil for his good, and with hatred for his love.
Michael's prayer to God was for homosexuals in general, not specific people. Most of those he wished death he has never met. He mentioned no person who was deceitful against him or who is fighting him. I can't speak to whether Michael loves homosexuals in general or not, but I doubt they're his adversaries unless he gives them cause to be. They probably wouldn't even think to dislike him, unless he did something awful against them, like approach one and wish him dead.
Tommy, you are correct: Ken doesn't get it: he's DELIBERATELY ignorant of the prayers for the wicked that suffuse scripture: such as Ps.109:"7 When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin. 8 Let his days be few; and let another take his office. 9 Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow. 10 Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places. 11 Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let the strangers spoil his labour. 12 Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favour his fatherless children. 13 Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out. 14 Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the LORD; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out. 15 Let them be before the LORD continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth. 16 Because that he remembered not to show mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, that he might even slay the broken in heart. 17 As he loved cursing, so let it come unto him: as he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him." THIS is the type of GODLY prayer for advocates of & practitioners of sodomy. Ps.139:21,22
In the Sermon Audio user comments, there is a lot of anger which is expressed all too often like Michael's, in a very passive-aggressive and patronizing tone.
I know Michael won't be back to read these comments, but implying I'm unintelligent and don't understand his points simply because I disagree with him, calling me ignorant, implying I've been embarrassed by him, quoting me saying one thing then implying I said a another, all these things are rhetorical devices which don't address my argument -- they attack me instead and don't further understanding for anyone. If personal attacks belong anywhere, it's in email. I'd rather stick to the subjects of the article, and people's comments about the article and related issues.
For anyone still reading, my point is simply that bringing up the idea of harm or death upon many people is bad. I especially think that denying responsibility for having done so by trying to lay it at God's feet is despicable, or at the least thoughtless and heartless. People genuinely concerned for other people, help those people.
I think you are right. God blesses us with different level of intelligence, and I should not be too harsh on Ken for not getting some points. He and many others like him are ignorant of the fact that a prayer for judgment is a legitimate prayer, so long as it is in effect a prayer asking for God's will to be done, and that what we wish first is the sinners' repentance. I will not return to look at this article anymore. Sorry, Ken, if I have embarrassed you. Thanks.
Michael, I agree with you. It seems that Ken is just not getting it, and seems to have a false conception of what the Bible teaches. Wishing that God will just IF he wills is not the same as unbiblically wishing ill on people. The larger problem is an ignorance of Scripture and a reluctance to affirm it against secular stands of ethics and propriety. In other words, Ken has a "PC" Christianity, or, he is just too poor at reading and thinking to get what you are talking about. I don't think he will get it, and so suggest that you should just leave it alone.
Michael, 1. My mention of legal costs was addressing the concerns about his monetary situation expressed in the article (did you read it?) and in the below comment by shane.
2. and 3. If you, or any other mere human, suggests to God that maybe it's time to judge people with death, that is literally you wishing death upon other people, which sickens me. God deciding that death is His will is one thing ... your bringing it up and taking it upon yourself to suggest it is a manifestation of your will to harm or kill others.
1. The issue is not just about money. Read and think carefully.
2. If asking or expecting God to judge people and even by death turns your stomach, then the Bible must turn your stomach, and you are probably a non-Christian, so the issue becomes something other than a simple disagreement with my opinion.
3. I wrote that God should judge these people IF HE WILL. This is BY DEFINITION correct. If he wills, he will do it; if he does not will, he will not do it.
Dear God, may you give grace for many to repent for the sin of homosexuality. Otherwise, if it is your will, perhaps it is time to send strong judgment against the homosexual movement, such as sending a plague that targets homosexuals.
The comment by Stephen Black makes no sense. If SermonAudio.com removes a message because it is against something that they affirm, that means that SermonAudio.com instead CAN and DOES stand up to what they believe to be false. SermonAudio.com is not the problem, but people like Stephen Black who can't think clearly.
When SermonAudio.com removes a great message like "The Dynamics and Downfall of the man of God" by Greg Locke because of spurious comments about Calvin in the message, it is no wonder Satan has such an enemic church that can't stand up to Sodomites. Where are all the christians in Toronto to help this man. I travelled 500 miles to protest the pope when he visited Toronto a few summers ago and you could hardly find any protesters there. Wake up! When the trumpet sounds and you realize it all is true it will be to late to try and win one more soul or finaly take a stand for Christ.
