Megachurches Shopping Mall Theology
An advertisement for the Saddleback Church invites congregants to attend "God's Extreme Makeover" - a revival of Christ in their hearts named after the latest television fad, in which volunteers undergo plastic surgery.

Leaflets at the door to the main hall proclaim "You Can Bring Your Coffee Into Any Venue". Children run around in baseball shirts proclaiming that they are part of God's own squad. The thousands inside are able to sing along to spiritual songs - not traditional hymns - from the words on giant karaoke screens suspended above a light rock band.

This is the United States' latest religious phenomenon. As Americans like going to shopping malls for all their consumer needs in one spot, so self-styled "megachurches" are the fastest growing form of service in the country.

They offer a one-stop spiritual supermarket. At the Saddleback Church in Lake Forest just outside Los Angeles ...

very good point about parables Engineer.

sadly, there are many churches today like the one in the article, which are more like social clubs and places of merchandise.

we should pity them and be thankful that many whom are truly the Lord's realise that they must come into the courts of the Lord in reverance and Godly fear.

Of course we have a joy in our hearts, and hearts overflowing with praise and thanfulness, but we must keep within Biblical boundary's.

These people get their "reward", as in a congregation of 20,000, can you imagine that !? we do well to get above 20 at the place we worship !

What happens when we try to make the CHURCH fit the WORLD: we miss the need for the Holy Ghost to breath life into the lost.

Rick Muchow, Pastor of Greater Arts - defends the mall approach.
"Don't forget Christ used user-friendly language. He spoke to his followers in parables."
But Jesus spoke parables to CONFUSE!
Matt.10:13 And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?
11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
12 For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.
13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.
14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:
15 For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them."
