Will China become Christian? Veteran reporter David Aikman thinks so.
China's current population is about 1.3 billion, which he says includes about 70 million Protestants and about 12 million Catholics. In 1949, when China had a population of about 500 million, 4 million were Christians.
"That is a 20-fold increase in Christians, but the population increased only 1.5 times," he said.
"It is plausible that in 30 years, 20 [percent] or 30 percent of the population will become believers. That is a magic tipping point because it means that important positions within the government are held by Christians. The case that I am making is that China is going to be Christianized if that trend continues."...
We support several missions involved in China, and the fact is that the true believers are still in the underground house churches. The state governed 'Three-self' churches forbid the reading and teaching of certain passages of the Bible and insist upon monitoring what goes on within the church. Until these and other conditions are removed the true church will remain hidden and persecuted.
And Jim, I totally agree with your comment "Considering that Great Britain is less of a Christian nation in almost every way that was in the 19th-century shows that a superficial association with Christianity is meaningless."
For the most part, in my experience, God is either dead in England, or pew-jumping with the Pentecostals. This is sad when one remembers the godly heritage we have.
Most western countries are rejecting God.But God has a plan and that plan will not be stopped. The Isrealites wondered in the desert for forty years and yet God fulfilled his plan. The west can reject Jesus,He will find a nation that will embrace his will and do it to the full.God has a remnant in the west and they are embraceing his will. Many are called but few are chosen.
I hope the hidden churches will start exposing themselves. I know it's easier to tell Daniel "don't be afraid of the lions" from the outside, but Jesus tells us not to be ashamed of Him. I pray they will have wisdom and discernment of who they fellowship with, but Christians should come out of hiding, even if it means being killed and losing it all. I pray those hidden house churches are growing in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus and that the Holy Spirit will fill them to overflowing that they cannot but speak about our Lord Jesus who saves us from the judgment to come. If God be for us, who can be against us. Fear not him who can kill the body and do no more, fear Him who can kill the body and cast your soul into hell. Fear Him. We can do all things through Christ. I am praying for those percecuted, dear brothers and sisters in Christ. I pray they are growing stronger and bolder in their witness and will be Holy Spirit led and obedient to Scripture and Jesus.
I just read Dr. Yohannans' FREE book "Revolution in World Missions," he also runs the missions ministry Gospel for Asia. He says that native missionaries are having much greater impact from evangelism than Western missionaries have had. With the Holy Spirit leading, and close study of Scripture, hopefully the true Gospel, the complete Gospel of Jesus Christ will continue to transform sinners all around the world. The full Gospel, including the message of sin, judgment, repentance, hell, along with forgiveness and God's love is what must be preached. Dr. Yohannan says his missionaries are being trained correctly, and having a great impact in the areas they are working. So many US churches are pampering the lazy and disobedient Christians (?), that's why we have so many churchgoers who don't fear and love the God described in the Bible. The reality of hell and God's righteous judgment should make us all tremble and run to our Savior, Jesus, the Only Way to God. Lord Jesus, please continue to guide us into all truth, and thank you for transforming us guilty sinners who cling to Jesus as our only hope in this corrupt generation by Your Holy Spirit.
it'hard to say the Christians assemblies in China are legal or not.It depands on how you are thinking.I can go everychurch i want, and talk with every christians there freely.from what i know, house churches do exist in China.but it doesn't mean house churches are illegal! It is unnessary for Chinese christians to be hidden from most chinese or Gov.Last summer,my American friend came to visit me.during his staying here,he had been to several Churches and he even gave a speech in Church on sunday...... I really wish every foreigner who pays attention on Chinese christianity to come to China.staying in a chinese family instead of staying in hotel, talking with your chinese neighborhood, then you'll find the truth.
If there are 82 million Christians of one sort or another in China, and they really believe, that may exceed the number in the United States already, where 23% (~70 million) claim a born again experience but only about half of those (~35 million) act on it.
Regarding Lin's characterization of the Chinese church as a social club, that my be true in the state churches that he can see. However, data indicate most Christians there are in house churches. Given the fact that such assemblies are illegal, they could well be hidden even from most Chinese.
According to a Chinese friend who is studying theology at the Adventist University of the Philippines, there will be more Christians in China than in the United States in the next decade or so if present growth trend continues. I believe David Aikman is correct to think that the Chinese will have a big impact on evangelizing Muslims in the years to come. We can see the influence of Chinese Christians even here in the Philippines where they are active in evangelizing even the non-Chinese people. I won't be surprised if they will send missionaries to the United States soon as some Chinese church groups are doing now.
I can't agree with the author!nowadays in China, most of Christians are old women.they were believers of budda before they started to believe in God.why?because old women have nothing to do and they want to be a member of a group.some young men believe in God,I think it's because Christian means western countries in some way.it means they have some connection with foreigners(esp,American).they don't have real faith.
God will determine which individuals are part of the Elect. China may well have even more Christians than it does now, but that is up to God. Considering that Great Britain is less of a Christian nation in almost every way that was in the 19th-century shows that a superficial association with Christianity is meaningless. Unfortunately, this is also true of United States.
