WEST UNION, Ohio (AP)--Ten people were arrested Monday for hindering workers who had been ordered to remove the Ten Commandments from school grounds.
Several hundred people protested a federal judge's order to remove the commandments from four schools. Some initially blocked a crane from taking the 800-pound granite tablets from Peebles and West Union high schools.
The protesters were arrested without resistance a few hours later at West Union High and charged with trespassing. The tablets were lifted with a crane and removed on a truck.
The Adams County school district in southwest Ohio about 60 miles east of Cincinnati is challenging the ruling that the displays violated the separation of church and state.
