Iraq Preacher Urges Muslims to Attack US Interests
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq's top preacher on Friday urged Muslims to attack American interests around the world in a holy struggle or jihad to defend Baghdad against any U.S.-led invasion.
In a sermon at the Mother Of All Battles mosque, Abdul-Razzaq Saadi called on God to drown President Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair, and predicted that Iraq would emerge victorious from the approaching war.
"It is the duty of Muslims today, Iraqis and others, to threaten American interests wherever they are, to set them on fire and to sink their ships. This is jihad in the name of God," said Saadi.
"Islamic sharia (law) says that if an enemy attacks us to seize our religion, money, honor and wealth then jihad becomes a must and a duty," he added.
