THE world is in a state of terror and paranoia over 'Muslims, Arabs and bearded people', says Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad as leaders from the world's developing countries begin arriving here to deliberate the situation in Iraq, North Korea and other issues.
The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit begins here today but Dr Mahathir, who will take over as chairman of the biggest group of countries outside the United Nations, gave a glimpse yesterday of what his government would use the platform for.
He told a group of business leaders yesterday that the world had grown fearful of the possibility of war and that such prospects were just not good for business.
Making a case against war in Iraq has been Dr Mahathir's declared centrepiece of his government's main agenda during the NAM summit.
Is paronia spreading over muslims? Well maybe it is. The prime minister seems to imply that it is unfounded paronia. Well in many countries the fear is well founded. Not to say there is a threat from the 'average' muslim, but many if not most Islamic headed goverment show much to be concerned about for non-muslims.
