CO Legislators endorse posting of 'In God We Trust'
Denver - After three hours of sometimes tearful debate between fiery atheists and passionate preachers, lawmakers approved a bill that requires "In God We Trust" to be posted in every public building and classroom in the state.
The House State, Veterans and Military Affairs Committee endorsed the requirement on a 6-4 vote Thursday, moving it to the full House.
Bill sponsor Rep. Debbie Stafford, R-Aurora, said posting the motto in classrooms and public buildings is an important show of support for soldiers about to put themselves in harm's way, as significant as flying the flag.
"I'm very proud of these symbols," Stafford told committee members, choking back tears.
