CO Legislators endorse posting of 'In God We Trust'
Denver - After three hours of sometimes tearful debate between fiery atheists and passionate preachers, lawmakers approved a bill that requires "In God We Trust" to be posted in every public building and classroom in the state.

The House State, Veterans and Military Affairs Committee endorsed the requirement on a 6-4 vote Thursday, moving it to the full House.

Bill sponsor Rep. Debbie Stafford, R-Aurora, said posting the motto in classrooms and public buildings is an important show of support for soldiers about to put themselves in harm's way, as significant as flying the flag.

"I'm very proud of these symbols," Stafford told committee members, choking back tears. ...

On the surface this sounds like a "nice idea." But upon reflection it is a disaster waiting to happen.

One of the legislators is quoted in this article as saying that "In God We Trust" is a "benign slogan."

Trusting in God is benign? This remark shows to me that this is nothing but more than political showmanship.

There appears to be no interest here in honoring God or in pointing people to Christ.

Assume what would happen if this bill WERE to pass AND survive judicial review (which it certainly wouldn't in today's political climate). The effects would be disasterous.

Leave alone the fact that faith is not to be legislated - making the whole idea flawed from the start.

What will happen when Massachusetts or Minnesota or Hawaii decides to mandate putting "In Paganism We Trust" in every public building and classroom?

If people like these legislators in Colorado would concentrate on serving Christ in the manner he has prescribed rather than trying to make a public show, the world would be a lot better off.

This is truly a shameful move and NOT in the service of Christ and his Church.

I hope the Lord's people in Colorado will stand up against this sad state of affairs in their state.
