The first drunken-driving accident leading to a murder conviction in Fresno County killed Angelica Loera's fetus.
Being part of a first didn't matter to Loera, four months from becoming a mother until her car was hit head-on. She would rather it hadn't happened at all.
"I'm happy he won't be able to do this again," she said Wednesday of Jorge Luis Santoya, sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for driving drunk, crashing into Loera and causing the death of the woman's 20-week-old fetus.
"He destroyed a part of our lives. ... I don't think it's fair that we have to pay the price for his stupidity."
