Roman Catholic Church pays hush money to sex abuse victims
THE Roman Catholic Church has secretly paid thousands of pounds in “hush money” to dozens of Britons who were sexually abused by priests.
The disclosure will come as a further embarrassment to the Catholic Church in England and Wales and to its spiritual leader, Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor, the Archbishop of Westminster, who has been accused of turning a blind eye to paedophile priests when he was Bishop of Arundel and Brighton.
One of them, Father Michael Hill, was jailed in 1997 for a string of sex offences and will be sentenced tomorrow after admitting further charges of indecent assault on three boys. Several of the compensation payments — which were made on condition that the victims did not talk about them — went to people abused by Hill and Cardinal Murphy- O’Connor is said to have been aware of them.
The police are already investigating claims that the Cardinal covered up...
Tom, given that the article was taken from a daily paper, I think you're being too hard on them. I can vouch for the fact that I see articles on this from time to time in all the papers I see.
What is scary here is that this church didn't look up Paul's admonitions for the church (and Jesus' in Matthew 18) and cast out the wickedness from among them.
It is amazing that with all the disclosures of sexual abuse and other unchristian acts performed by the Roman Catholic Church, that the Daily Newspapers ignore the continual abuse by R.C. Clerics.

These scandals are just the exposing of what has been going on in the RC religion since they banned marriage of priests (so they couldn't pass on to their children the wealth the obtained from selling indulgences or forgiveness of sins formoney. this way the church got your money when you died). many popes were famous for their msitresses and many were the products of popes. The thing that leads more priests into sexual sin than any other is the auricular confession. The church demands that they ask the most personal and debasing questions of a woman. "But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints" (Ephesians 5) An elder must be above reproach, the husband of one wife. These priests have known many wives as well as young children!
