SPENCER BURKE: Runs THE OOZE, for Christian leaders.
For a modern evangelical pastor, it was a dream come true. A successful ministry in one of the country's fastest growing megachurches, spanking new facilities â even the opportunity to start a Saturday night service aimed at youths not drawn to the regular programs.
"The only problem," Spencer Burke realized, was "that I'm not a modern evangelical pastor."
In anguish, he walked away from the church, not knowing where he was headed next.
What he did know was that the institutional church wasn't attuned to the world he lived in; open to theological questioning; or responding to the challenge of a postmodern culture in which institutional authority, absolute truth, and even a rationalistic world view no longer hold sway.
"Faith cometh by HEARING, and HEARING by THE WORD OF GOD". This is the ONLY way ANYONE will be saved. If God's Holy word is not preached, and those delivering the message are not living a live pleasing to Christ ("If ye love me, keep my commandments" John 14:15), there will be no fruit. .
After studying the influence of New Age postmodern thought being inculcated for the last 30 years into this up and coming generation, why would the "fruit" of new age antichrist doctrine be a whole pile of people who want an experience of Jesus rather than the Jesus who is inseperable from His Word ?
Come out of her ( Babylon )My people, that ye be not partakers in her plagues.
This sounds like the church playing harlot and calling it reaching out to the world. The only thing that can ever bring a person to God is the Holy Spirit of God. You take any man, women, or child, from any background and in any âdysfunctionâ; you place that person in the presence of the Almighty and they will fall on their knees in repentance or run away.
The people of the church have used the church to try to woo people into the church. The church was never intended to be used in this way. I know of many churches in my area where there are lost people serving in authority positions. This is an outrage. The church is a place for BELIEVERS to come together, to encourage one another, build up one another, and teach one another. Jesusâ command was to go. Wherever they are-- GO, but never in your own strength, you must go with the power of God.
I would strongly encourage anyone who thinks that this is a good idea (including Mr. SPENCER BURKE) to listen to sermon on this website by Paris Reidhead called Ten Shekels and a Shirt. I would also encourage them to look into the lives of men like Charles Finney, George Muller, John Wesley, William Boothe, The Apostle Paul. All of these men were used mightily by God to reach the lost. They did it by good old-fashioned preaching and the word of God. Why were they effective? They were effective because Christ was working through them, uninhibited. That is where the power lies. âUnless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains alone.â
