Catholic Priest "was IRA bomb mastermind"

Police are probing allegations that a Catholic priest masterminded one of Northern Ireland's worst terrorist atrocities 30 years ago.

It has been claimed the cleric, now dead, broke down and admitted being in charge of the IRA team which killed nine civilians in a bomb attack in the village of Claudy, Co Londonderry in l972.

The confession, it has been alleged, was made soon after the bombing to another priest in neighbouring Co Donegal who has now contacted the Belfast-based News Letter.

He said he went to see the priest at Malin Head at the end of the summer of l972, not long after the bombing. ...
