Survey: More Americans spend time with Christian media than attend church

The percentage of American adults that spend time with Christian radio, television or books exceeds the percentage of those attending churches, a Barna Research Group survey shows.

Sixty-seven percent of adults surveyed said they had been exposed to one of those three kinds of religious media in the past month compared with 63 percent saying they had attended a church service in that same time frame.

Fifty-two percent of adults said they tuned into a Christian radio program in the past month; 43 percent said they had listened to a station playing Christian music during the past month and 38 percent said they had turned the dial to a teaching, preaching or talk show.

Researchers for the Ventura, Calif.-based research firm, found that 43 percent of adults watched some Christian television programming in the past month; 33 percent said they had read a Christian book other than the Bible in the ...
