Jetliner crashes in South Korean mountain

A wreckage of the crashed Chinese passenger airplane near Busan, South Korea's second largest city, 200 miles southeast of Seoul.

SEOUL, South Korea, April 15 â€” An Air China airplane carrying 166 people crashed into a mountain in rain and fog Monday as it was preparing to land in South Koreaâ€™s second largest city. Fifty-four people survived, police said.

THE BOEING 767-200 from Beijing was approaching Kimhae Airport in Busan as it hit the mountainside near a residential area, police said. It was not clear if there were any casualties on the ground.

â€œThe plane is broken in pieces, and dead bodies are everywhere,â€ said a witness, Park Byung-min, on the cable news network YTN. The planeâ€™s debris was engulfed in flames, he said.

Police used helicopters to rescue survivors, but their efforts were hampered by rain. Poor-quality roads slowed rescuers reaching the site by land. ...
