Americans Mark One Month After Attacks
Americans across the nation paused Thursday to reflect on the terrorist attacks that robbed thousands of their lives and millions of their sense of security ‚ÄĒ exactly one month ago.

At the World Trade Center, recovery work ceased as a moment of silence was observed at 8:48 a.m., the time of the first Sept. 11 attack. Bagpipers intoned a somber rendition of Amazing Grace as police officers, firefighters and construction workers partook in a memorial service administered by a Fire Department chaplain.

"Don't look at the terrorism over there, look at the heroism over here," Rabbi Joseph Potasnik said as workers took of their helmets and joined arm in arm.

New York City Mayor Giuliani and the city's fire and police commissioners stood on a stage in front of the blackened Dow Jones building as prayers were said for the missing and the dead. ...
