Update 2/7/14. We would like to give you a quick update on the status of the Austin campaign. The printing is complete. And the mailers have just shipped their last truckload! It will take some more days before every single copy is delivered but for all intents and purposes, we have officially completed this enormous effort! Click above to browse through some photos of the process.A massive effort is underway. In the eleventh largest city in America there stands a building that once dominated the skyline. It is now simply known as “The Tower.” On its facade, is an inscription carved in giant letters of stone that has for 77 silent years proclaimed to the city words first spoken over 2000 years ago. “Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.” The words are very familiar and the building is a landmark perhaps more recognizable than any other in Austin. Familiar words to be sure, but what do they mean and who said them?
Each and every home in Austin, TX a city of nearly 840,000 people, will soon receive a copy of a 2,000-year-old document that will answer that question for any that care to read it.
The document: The Gospel of John was written by most accounts, around the year 90 A.D. by John, the youngest of the Apostles of Jesus Christ. It was penned near the end of his life as an eyewitness account of the life and works of Jesus of Nazareth. The Gospel of John is one of the best loved and most often quoted of the Gospels.
The Gospel of John Project
In an effort to re-introduce this historical eyewitness account of the life and teachings of Jesus Christ to people all over America, SermonAudio.com has partnered with the Trinitarian Bible Society in what it calls the Gospel of John Project. Through the collective support of hundreds of like-minded churches and individuals from around the world, the Gospel of John Project has steadily moved from one city to the next with the goal of printing and mailing as many copies of this unique book to as many homes across the country as is possible. Starting with just 13,000 copies printed and mailed to homes in New York City in 2008 the project has grown to include 21 cities with just over quarter of a million Gospels delivered.
A Generous Donor
Austin will be the 22nd city to be targeted, but what makes the Austin campaign so unique is that every single home in the entire city will be reached due to the heart desire of a single generous donor. Having lived more than 50 years of his life in Austin, he would now like to introduce its citizens to those immortal words from John’s Gospel and the One that spoke them once again.
People of Austin, look for a copy of the Gospel of John in your mailbox soon, and when it arrives see for yourself who this Jesus is. He is the Truth that will set you free.
