With a week left to register to vote in the next election, metro Detroit's religious leaders urged their congregations Sunday to become politically involved, and asked them to spread the message to their neighbors.
At a rally on the University of Detroit Mercy campus in Detroit, the group known as MOSES -- which stands for Metropolitan Organizing Strategy Enabling Strength -- invited Michigan's political and community leaders to learn about the six main issues it wants the government to address.
"We expect a commitment... to work with us in each of these areas," said the Rev. Kevin Turman, president of MOSES and pastor of the Second Baptist Church of Detroit. "The agenda we create, we do out of a position of faith. These are the issues that are affecting your community."
