Once considered the errant, unruly stepchild of education, homeschooling has begun to emerge as a viable option.
Homeschoolers are no longer perceived as weird educational outcasts who couldn't cut it in the traditional classroom. And the reason is clear. Homeschoolers demonstrate many of the desirable characteristics educators hope to instill in their students: social adaptability and academic acuity.
In fact, homeschoolers often top standardized test scores and are sought after by prestigious colleges and universities.
"Homeschoolers have the highest SAT and ACT scores, higher than private or public schools," said Rebecca Kochenderfer, author of "Homeschooling for Success." "The average homeschooler, by the eighth grade, is doing 12th grade work."
