Psalm 149 - 2nd Version
Psalm 149
HOUGHTON  |  Bible Passage
Author: Scottish Psalter
Musician: HENRY JOHN GAUNTLETT, 1805-1876

1   O PRAISE ye the Lord!
          Prepare your glad voice,
     New songs with his saints
          Assembled to sing;
     Before his Creator
          Let Israel rejoice,
     And children of Zion
          Be glad in their King.

2   And let them his name
          Extol in the dance;
     With timbrel and harp
          His praises express;
     Who always takes pleasure
          His saints to advance,
     And with his salvation
          The humble to bless.

3   His saints shall sing loud
          With glory and joy,
     And rest undismayed;
          With songs in the night
     The praise of Jehovah
          Their lips shall employ;
     A sword in their right hand
          Two-edged for the fight;

4   The heathen to judge,
          Their pride to consume,
     To fetter their kings,
          Their princes to bind;
     To execute on them
          The long-decreed doom;
     Such honour for ever
          The holy shall find.
     Hallelujah.

BIBLE PASSAGE:

1 ¶ Praise ye the LORD. Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise in the congregation of saints.
2 Let Israel rejoice in him that made him: let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.
3 Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp.
4 For the LORD taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation.
5 Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds.
6 ¶ Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a twoedged sword in their hand;
7 To execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people;
8 To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron;
9 To execute upon them the judgment written: this honour have all his saints. Praise ye the LORD.
