KURIOS (Kurios) = ADONAI
I. Introduction.
Isaiah 45:
“there is no God-Elohiym else beside me: a just God-El and a Saviour…” v.21
“for I am God-El (Almighty) and there is none else…” v.22
“The word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return,
that unto me every knee shall bow-(worship)
and every tongue shall swear.” V.23
Philippians 2:
-highly exalted, above every name.
-every knee should bow.
-every tongue should confess that …..Jesus Christ is Lord
-for the glory of God (Theos) the Father. V.9-11
Isaiah 8:
The Lord spake also unto me…v. 5
Im-man-u-el v. 8
“for God-Elohiym is with us…” v. 10

Note: 1. The word YHWH became incommunicable name in Leviticus 24:16 and substitute the word Elohiym and Adonai in reading the Scriptures.
2. Greek word Kurios is the translation of the Hebrew word Adonai in Septuagint.
II. Jesus is Adonai.
Adonai, from the hebrew word ADOWN- means, to Rule, Sovereign, Controller, Lord, Master, Owner.
Adonai- root idea, “GOD BEING OUR OWNER”
Isaiah 65:13 “Therefore thus said the Lord God, behold, my servants…”
Ezekiel 38:1 “Lord” is YHWH, Jehovah
v. 3, 10, 14, 17 “Lord God” is YHWH ADONAI, Jehovah Adonai
The power of his word declares his ownership.
Negative: We do not belong to ourselves.
Positive: He is our owner by creation. Our life depends on Him.
Our relationship before the Fall is “unto Him”.
So in Isaiah 45:23 “the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.”
Note: Our relationship due to Him as owner by creation.
-everyone is due to worship Him.
-every language should confess, declares, acknowledge, (ipahayag),
- that He is our God and Saviour.
- That He is our True Religion
- That He is The God of the OT
- That He is Adonai, our Owner, Master and Lord.
Now, who own us after the fall?
· actually, He is still our owner by creation.
· but without the relationship to God, “no one seeketh God”
· no one worship Him in Righteousness.
· we are like “sheep have gone astray, turned everyone to his own way.”
· no acknowledgement of His Godliness as our creator.
· no thanksgiving, no “chief end of man”
· no glorification due unto Him.
By the relationship, who really own us?
God is still our owner by creation but without relationship.
-selfishness! ourselves! give application as many as you can… “this is my business…my job…my car…”
then…suddenly after the silent period between the OT and NT, prophecy of Isaiah was fulfilled in Christ...
Isaiah 53:6 “And the Lord had laid on Him the iniquity of us all”
Now, who own us after His death on the cross?
After God-Elohiym redeemed us in His begotten Son of God.
· owner twice as much over in His salvation given to us.
· He is now our owner “by creation” and also by His “re-creation”.
· we are called the servants of God.
Owner by creation with relationship.
Col. 3:24 “Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.”
II Tim. 2:19 “The Lord knoweth that are His.”
I Cor. 6:19b-20a “ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price:”
Our Lord Jesus Christ is ADONAI, for the death He hath done in the Cross of Calvary.
He was the priest and the sacrifice at the same time and we were redeemed through His blood.
God-Theos-Elohiym own us now by re-creation through His only begotten Son of God.
Jesus is Lord-Kurios-Adonai!!
III. Application.
See: Exodus:16
“I will rain bread from heaven for you.”v,.4
Manna from heaven everyday but, “that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.”vv. 4-5 and 22
“Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the Sabbath, in it there shall be none.” V. 26
“and it came to pass, that there went out some of the people on the seventh day for to gather, and they found none.”
It is not according to the desiderative will of God for us to work on our worship day (to gather manna according to our own desires)
1. Who rule us now?
2. Who control us, ourselves or God?
3. Who is our Master?
4. Is He the Lord (adonai) of our life?
5. Is Christ the Adonai…?
by creation without relationship? or
by re-creation with relationships, responsibilities, burden to the works of the ministry of the Church?
6. Jesus Christ is Kurios and God by meaning of Adonai with the works he hath done in the cross.

If Christ is not God (the second person of the triune God) who came in flesh to reconcile man back to God not only in the essence of His person as God-man but also in His works in the Death of the Cross, ....there is no Salvation!
