Mike, Please see the Westminster Shorter Catechism:
"Q. 29. How are we made partakers of the redemption purchased by Christ?
A. We are made partakers of the redemption purchased by Christ, by the effectual application of it to us by his Holy Spirit.
Q. 30. How doth the Spirit apply to us the redemption purchased by Christ?
A. The Spirit applieth to us the redemption purchased by Christ, by working faith in us,and thereby uniting us to Christ in our effectual calling.
Q. 31. What is effectual calling?
A. Effectual calling is the work of God’s Spirit, whereby, convincing us of our sin and misery, enlightening our minds in the knowledge of Christ, and renewing our wills, he doth persuade and enable us to embrace Jesus Christ, freely offered to us in the gospel.
Q. 32. What benefits do they that are effectually called partake of in this life?
A. They that are effectually called do in this life partake of justification, adoption, and sanctification, and the several benefits which in this life do either accompany or flow from them.
Q. 33. What is justification?
A. Justification is an act of God’s free grace, wherein he pardoneth all our sins, and accepteth us as righteous in His sight, only for the the righteousness of Christ imputed to us, and received by faith alone."

JL,

Don't you care about the babies? Trump isn't perfect--far from it. The Hillary ship has sunk. What we need more than anything is Holy Spirit wrought revival, the proclamation of Bible truth, and genuine repentance.

We get it. You like Hillary. Let's focus on the Gospel and Christ.

Let's Boycott the NBA and Google and Apple. The LBGT folks are small in number and, through these institutions, they are trying to impose perversion on the majority of the country (Christian and non-Christian alike).

Let's get something straight. For starters, Christian Brothers does not equal Christian brothers. In other words, the former are Roman Catholic not necessarily brothers in Christ. There is a difference. Satan uses the bad behavior of Romanism in order to portray real (that is Biblical) Christianity in a negative light.

He's been doing it for a long time and it's one of his greatest tricks. We must be born again and have the Holy Spirit and Christ's righteousness to be genuine Christian brothers. The real brethren will be separated from the counterfeit brethren on the Last Day, when the Great Shepherd of the Sheep separates HIS lambs from Satan's goats.

Yet another reason to sing "psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs" a.k.a. the three types of psalms in the Book of Psalms. Can't go wrong singing God's Holy Spirit inspired Word. The Psalms (like all of God's Word) are inerrant and unchanging.

How about this advice to the pontiff? Repent and believe in the one true Gospel. There is one head of the church: Christ (Himself). There is one way of salvation and it is by faith in Christ alone by grace alone. No idols, no co-redemptrix, and no "priests" are necessary. Only God can make a saint. It happens every time a hell-deserving sinner repents and places saving faith in the finished atonement of the Lord Jesus Christ.

If Christ and Paul did it and the New Testament saints did it en masse until quite recently, then it's not Judaising, is it?

Yes, there are types and shadows and we have the light of Christ now. Somethings continue like the 10 Commandments and somethings don't like those things specific to the Temple, dietary laws, and the theocratic nation of Israel, circumcision, the Passover, the Day of Atonement. Those things have passed away and have been fulfilled in Christ.

Just curious, which is more important personal preference or what God commands? Oh, that's legalism one might say. No, we are saved by grace through faith alone in Christ alone. But, lets remember, He said "if you love me keep my commandments." He is the Word made flesh...the whole word and that includes the glorious OT which helps us to understand the NT. And, on the flipside, we need the NT to understand the OT.

I believe in Christ and my eyes are wide open. I also know that he said that we are blessed when reviled for righteousness sake. If we hate our brethren, the love of God does not dwell in us.

Notice... there no ad hominem attacks in anything that I've written. Good night and may the good Lord bless you abundantly.
In His grace,
wrr

Dear Hymnist,

Hope you are well this evening.

Christ is on every page of scripture. He sang the psalms and was sinless. All parts of His worship are regulated by God. I never indicated otherwise. What points to Christ more than Psalm 22, Psalm 2, Psalm 118, Psalm 110, etc.? The Psalms were used by the early church and in the synagogue. They are inspired by the Holy Spirit.

Don't take my word for it...

Blessings to you.

Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs refer to the types of psalms within the Book of Psalms. Psalmos, hymnos, and ode are all mentioned in the inspired headings. Christ Himself sang the Psalms in worship and was without sin. God is zealous for His worship. That, my friends, is no laughing matter.

Please be Berean and search the scriptures before you dismiss it.

These should be of help:

Romanism = Counterfeit Christianity

According to the Bible, the Lord Jesus Christ declared "It is finished." once HIS perfect (once and for all) atonement was accomplished on the cross.

See John 19:30
http://biblehub.com/john/19-30.htm

***

With respect to this so-called "Holy Year or Mercy," no anti-Christian pontiff has the right or the warrant to make such blasphemous, abominable decrees.

Mercy is found at the cross.

No one should be killing the unborn. Period.
But let's be clear, Catholic does NOT equal Christian.

I was one so I can make that assertion with absolute confidence. It is by faith alone, in Christ alone, by grace alone.

Protestantism in the main has lost its protest. Go by the Bible and put your trust in Christ alone, not in Mary, not in a man with a black outfit with a white collar, not in Mother Teresa. Do that my friends for all other ground is sinking sand.

Moreover, Christ alone is the head of the church and any true believing Christian is a saint.

Amen to that John.
Let us return to the old paths. May others experience the beauty of pure worship and the God-glorifying practice of unaccompanied psalmody.

Romans 4
Genesis 15:6
Psalm 32:1-2

2 Cor 5:21

The imputation of Christ's perfect righteousness to the believer is the crux of the Christian faith. We need HIS righteousness and we receive it the very second we believe and are born again.

All other ground is sinking sand my friends...no matter what Rome, the world, and other false professing Christians in visible church might tell us.

There is one faith, one Lord, one baptism--one way in which a sinner is transformed into a saint. The world hates this blessed doctrine of justification but it's the only one that truly has the power to save.

Repent and believe the one true Gospel...and vigorously defend the faith once delivered to the saints. Satan doesn't like it. Notice: all the false ways he permits. Like Pharoah of old, the adversary doesn't want to let people go...hence HIS relentless opposition to this most basic and essential Biblical truth.

Thanks be to God that the Lord Jesus Christ has already bound the strong man and has given us HIMSELF in triumph on Calvary!
