an anti catholic festival
Lisa, you should hate Popery and you should be anti-Catholic (but loving individual blinded RC's) and you should be familiar with the Protestant History of your country.
]]Why were our reformers burned? Remember, remember the fifth of November, Gunpowder, treason and plot. We see no reason
Why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!
Guy Fawkes, guy, t'was his intent
To blow up King and Parliament.
Three score barrels were laid below
To prove old England's overthrow
By god's mercy he was catch'd
With a darkened lantern and burning match.
So, holler boys, holler boys, Let the bells ring. Holler boys, holler boys, God save the king.
And what shall we do with him? Burn him!
In 1605 an Act of Parliament called The Observance of the 5th November Act. The Act was created by Puritan sympathiser Edward Montagu of Boughton, a former MP for Northamptonshire, and called for an annual thanksgiving celebrating the failure of the plot and the deliverance of the King – better known today as Bonfire Night!
Remember the plot was to return popery to the throne and to England. Read J C Ryle above and ponder!
